About this project

What started out as a small running joke after watching Death Proof somehow grew legs, and in September of 2009 I realized I had 12,000 words about my glorious afterlife in a stylized Heaven where Rosario Dawson and I spend our days exemplifying a near-forgotten ideal of love, devotion and culinary excellence. Some people would argue that I either have too much time on my hands or need a therapist. I argue that it's BOTH. Nevertheless, in December another 13,000 words had managed to trickle out and issue #2 hit the inimitable and always satisfying 'zine rack at Quimby's (which is basically, aside from being an excellent bookstore, the epicenter of Chicago's rich and still thriving 'zine subculture). Considering I've had fantasies of actually walking into Quimby's and seeing something I made on that rack since 1997 or so, this filled me with almost as much joy and satisfaction as my fictional counterpart feels in the presence of Rosario Dawson. The 'zines continue to sell out, slowly but surely, month after month, and while I have no idea who's buying them, apparently people are into posthumous monogamy in a mutable but consistently rewarding Heaven.

Unfortunately, the publication of these 'zines was predicated on my employment in the reprographics department of a local bank, which I lost due to something called "the economy." Without access to software and printing/binding equipment I am unable to afford the production costs associated with meeting the INSATIABLE DEMAND for Rosario Dawson-centric fiction. I'm kidding, of course, but at least 65 copies of issue #1 are floating around the midwest (and Flagstaff, and Philadelphia, and Brooklyn). At 26 double sided pages per issue + computer time, plus shipping for those who don't live in Chicago, it's actually rather expensive to put out. I have the words and the love, but not the means. I would like to finish what I started, and continue to add to the city's long-running history of DIY print publications.

If for some reason you have found this website but have not read Rosario Dawson Loves Me, the first issue can be downloaded as a .pdf by clicking here.
Also, TimeOut Chicago likes it. Or at least Quimby's. See?

Connected

Justin Valmassoi would like to be left alone with his mezzaluna and his saucepans to die in obscurity, but acknowledges that your money and support would be invaluable in pursuing his other lifelong dream, which is to maintain some sort of presence on the Quimby's 'zine rack. To this end he kindly asks you to help see Rosario Dawson Loves Me through to completion. In return, you can have a copy. And maybe some sex.
