Butterfly Starpower is a 3-piece punk band consisting of Mari Davis (age 8), Her dad Sasha Davis and friend Jeff Duplessis.  The first song Mari wrote was "Bug Bite Emergency" back when she was four.  We starting playing live shows when Mari was 5 and recorded our 9 song album a couple years back when she was 6.  Jordan McLean and Amir Ziv from Sound Chemistry Records have been awesome in helping us record the album and getting it out there.  They also got amazing guitarists to play on the album: Lenny Kaye (Patti Smith group) and Dave Gregg (DOA/The Real McKenzies).  The full album will be out soon.

We have played shows in New England (playing another one in Burlington, VT this Nov. 25th at Radio Bean!), New York City, out here in Hawaii, and now we are ready for our first tour of Japan.  We choose to do a tour in Japan because Sasha has been there a couple times and is already going to be there this coming summer doing research. It is therefore just a matter of getting Mari and Jeff over.  We plan to do two weeks of shows at live houses and other venues across Japan.  Mari and Jeff haven't been to Japan before and are suuuuper excited to go.  Mari has been learning some Japanese as well :)

We know we are a bit of an unusual band since we have such a young singer, but we have really enjoyed playing live in a number of different venues (from bars, to all-ages clubs, to skate parks, to outdoor festivals).  As we tour we hope to be a positive example to both kids and parents to encourage them to collaborate together in artistic endeavors.  In an age where kids are increasingly the TARGETS of political legislation, educational debates, and increasingly intensive marketing and advertising campaigns; we feel that it is really important to encourage kids to develop their ability to artistically articulate their own thoughts and desires. We believe that kids should be allowed to be producers of music and art, not just passive consumers of it. It’s not only important, it's also wicked fun!
