The Butcher's Guild is a fraternity of meat professionals bound to create a support system for our industry. We focus on education and camaraderie to achieve a communal goal: a network of successful, skilled, independent butchers all across the country!

Each of our 85 members has signed the following Oath:

As a true butcher, I have a good: Heart, Source, Hand, Voice.

• Heart: I maintain integrity in relationships with customers and vendors.
• Source: I aim support local, sustainable farms and practice whole animal butchery.
• Hand: I strive to improve my knife skills and knowledge of the trade.
• Voice: I am an active community member and encourage a healthy food system.

For the first time, we want to bring our members together at the inaugural Butcher’s Guild learning retreat in Oakland, CA.  We have created a 2 day educational program that will advance our members’ whole-animal butchery skills.  In addition to enhancing our butchery skills, we need members' businesses to be successful too, so we’ll be joined by seasoned professionals teaching the management of inventory, staff training and safety processes. Finally, we've joined forces with the Eat Real festival in Oakland and created a butchery competition - providing recognition for our members' skills and giving the public a fascinating insight into the profession. 

If you are a thoughtful meat eater your support of this event will enable us to bring good meat to more families in more neighborhoods.  Your contribution will help fund the event venue, training facilities, instructor costs,  materials and competition costs. Any pledges above 100% will be used to launch an innovative butchery product, creating a revenue stream to sustain The Butcher's Guild into 2013 and beyond.
