About this project
Bughouse Theater is this close (imagine thumb and forefinger almost touching) to opening a new performance and gallery space in Chicago. This will be a place for artists from all disciplines and media to come together and collaborate. It will be a space that fosters community amongst artists and their audiences. There is a lot of work to be done. Hammer and nail and paint type of work. Aside from renovations we need an art installation for our opening. That is where you come in. We need donors...of money and faces.
We are creating a gallery of 1000 portraits to be unveiled on opening night. Send a digital photo to admin@bughousetheater.com along with your kickstarter donation and receive a portrait of yourself or the person, pet, ensemble or object you want immortalized. You will get to keep your portrait after the unveiling at our opening gala. For a little bit more a copy of your portrait will remain on display. For a bit more than that you will also get you portrait in a handmade wooden light box. All the portraits are slightly translucent and look pretty cool when back lit.
After making the portraits and finishing the renovations for the installation, all remaining proceeds will go toward future art and theater projects conducted by Bughouse Theater.
Donations less than $25 do not recieve a portrait , but are certainly appreciated. Everyone who gives will get our sincere thanks and an invitation to our grand opening.

about us...
Bughouse Theater is a collection of artists, actors, writers, and filmmakers who decided to create a new venue for themselves and their community.
We are dedicated to building Ensembles, with the belief that a group of connected, supportive individuals can accomplish great things on stage and screen, in their communities and in their own lives.
We are dedicated to the enrichment of communities through the arts and the enrichment of the arts through community.
We are dedicated to the principle of the artist owned venue.
The name "Bughouse" is taken from Chicago's Bughouse Square, a gathering place for orators, free speech advocates and rabblerousers of old. "Bughouse" was slang for mental institution, and seemed to fit the cast of characters that frequented the square. It is in the spirit of that place that we hope to establish ourselves.
