Now is about the time to where I tell you a little bit about what I've learned the last few weeks. There's a love/hate relationship about Meme Defense. Some people love it:
"Dude, I checked out your Kickstarter page and it is hilarious :] Congrats on putting that together, and congrats on getting the artists/musician support! Can't wait to see what you guys come up with" - Ray Wenderlich For those of you unfamiliar with Ray Wenderlich, he literally wrote the book on cocos2d. No, seriously.
"I actually own most of the meme pages in North America with about 2M unique views from [them]. Saw you on kickstarter.. seems like a pretty cool idea. Interested in chatting? I think I can help with marketing." - Owner of big meme websites
And others thought differently:
"This is stupid. You are awarded no points, and may god have mercy on your soul." - Some guy on Facebook
"How many variations of AIDS do you need to have in your blood stream in order to make such a cancerous thing like this?" - Some guy who took the time to register on Kickstarter just to send this message
Regardless if you love it or hate it, it appears to have some validity:
- Over 50% funded. THANK YOU SO MUCH! I LOVE YOU!
- 427 likes on Facebook
- Press
- More press from the blog
-
Other press - below the fold
- The CEOs of a couple meme sites and a mobile gaming company have contacted me looking to help with various things like marketing and finding an Android dev
- I was having a beer at the Creamery in the same T-shirt as the video and some guy stopped by my table and said, "Are you the meme guy? Your video is super funny."
.. When I asked if he pledged and he laughed and said, "Not a chance. I hate memes." Oh well, the market can only go so far.
I'll keep you posted on any new updates.
Ten days left!! It's crunch time. Bully your family into pledging. Blackmail your coworkers. Steal the money your friends were going to give to the starving orphans.
