We are a Dallas-based classical music series/ensemble geared towards breaking down the barriers between the audience and performers.
Bridge the Gap Chamber Players (or as we’ve fondly nicknamed it, BtG) is a “classical” chamber music ensemble based in Dallas, Texas.
In the past few decades, classical music has experienced a decline in it’s relevance to our society. The majority of our audiences have “blue hair” and the younger generation, our generation, is way more interested in Lady Gaga than Mozart. But here’s the thing, they’re both based on the same thing – life and the expression of it. Popular artists today write music to express themselves and their experiences in life, and so did and DO composers (oh yes, they aren’t extinct).
So why don’t people see that? Well, over the years classical music hasn’t adapted very well to the rapid changes in our culture and subsequently communication with audiences has really broken down. Barriers have formed between the musicians and audiences, barriers that don’t really have anything to do with the music itself.
The bottom line is that classical music, just like popular music, is an expression of emotions, experiences, and history and those are things that everyone can relate to. If we can build bridges and reconnect society to the true essence of classical music, then people will see that it’s something that everyone can relate to.
By putting our series in a popular part of Dallas (hopefully, Uptown) our plan is to attract new and younger audiences, while retaining those who have long supported classical music.
The money we raise through Kickstarter will be used for initial startup costs in filing for non-profit 501(c)(3) and our production sets for the first 2-3 concerts.
Sit back, close your eyes, and just listen.
Mission Statement: Bridge the Gap Chamber Players – a Dallas based chamber music ensemble – strives to eliminate barriers that exist between performers and their audiences, student musicians and professional musicians, and many genres of “classical” music through innovative, engaging programming and unique performance environments.
