Michael, an affluent hotel guest, is forced to confront his sexuality when a massage leads to something more.

The Story

Venus in Furs is a poignant film about a night in the life of Michael, an affluent hotel guest and family man, who is forced to confront his sexuality when a massage leads to something more.

We all have secrets and this film provides a glimpse into that which Michael is hiding. His masseur du jour, Severin, unwittingly triggers Michael's conflicted personal and professional life to boil to the surface, causing Michael to begin a journey of self-acceptance.

The Process

As an M.F.A. thesis film, Venus in Furs marks the culmination of Bryce Woodworth's studies at USC's School of Cinematic Arts.

Several other USC students will be involved in this project including producer, John Nordlinger and editor Shannon Rose. Production will take place over the course of four days during the summer of 2012, primarily in a hotel suite in Los Angeles, CA. Shot on the RED Epic by Timothy Burton, and edited over the next several months, the film will be completed by March, 2013.

The Funds

Making movies is an arduous, but fulfilling process, which requires the time and effort of many individuals. But in order to pay for everything we will also need the help of many individuals. Some of the things we need to fund are as follows:

  • Location Services: Although we are fortunate to need only one location, we will need to pay for a hotel suite and a connecting room for several nights as well as keeping our wonderful crew well fed.
  • Equipment: Much of the equipment will be provided by USC or donated, but there will be certain items that will need to be rented such as a dolly, walkie talkies, and a Kino Flo kit.
  • Festival Fees: After all this hard work, we will want to share our film with the world and increase our exposure. The more funds we receive the more festivals to which we will be able to submit.

Please join us in our effort and donate what you can. Any amount will be greatly appreciated.
