About this project
What What (In the Butt): THE MOVIE is a feature film based on the classic YouTube video "What What (In the Butt)" which has been viewed over 40 million times and counting. This Musical/Fantasy/Comedy will feature live-action characters in a colorful cartoon world with an abundance of guest stars. Loosely based on The Wizard of Oz and The Muppet Movie, the film will deal with themes such as homophobia, greed, fame, compassion, bullying, empowerment, and many others.
We'd like to raise money to make a very polished short film that looks and feels like a trailer for the finished film. We will use the trailer as a tool to get the finished film produced (much like the big budget feature film Machete started out as a fake trailer in the Tarantino/Rodriguez film Grindhouse). The trailer will be featured on YouTube and promoted throughout the web both as a standalone viral video and a stepping stone to the full-length movie.
The original video has been mentioned in The New York Times, Entertainment Weekly, CBS News, CNN, The Hollywood Reporter, TV Guide, The Huffington Post, The Washington Post, The LA Times, E! Online, MTV, VH1, The Onion, NME, Gawker, Billboard, and it's been featured on hit television shows like Comedy Central's South Park and Tosh.0.
We'll attempt to get as many guest stars as possible in the trailer, including: Johnny Depp, Leonardo DiCaprio, Prince, Lady Gaga, Janet Jackson, Madonna, Marion Cotillard, Neil Patrick Harris, Daniel Tosh, Gene Wilder, Pee-wee Herman, Elvira, Richard Simmons, and many others!
