About this project
In January 2011, Virginia Tech has invited us to bring our traveling art show to their campus for Black History Month. Our art show is based on a comic book that we produce called BROTHERMAN which is a historical series that inspired two generations of artists both nationally and abroad for the last 20 years. We have taken the original artwork from our series and have put them on display for public viewing in a unique, informative and inspiring manner. The Brotherman Art Show has already proven to be a fun, educational and exciting show for for all ages and has been on display in two prestigious Atlanta Art Galleries and it has also been on display and officially archived at the Auburn Avenue Research Museum in Atlanta. We have been working dilligently to raise funds to upgrade the quality of framing, over sized mounting and set designs to make the show even more dynamic for the Virginia Tech show and other shows yet to come. Much of what has been done to make the show a success has been a labor of love from both our team members and the community. Kickstarter would be a great opportunity to help us continue to cultivate young minds via the arts by making the show sharper and on a higher level of quality.

In 1990 a new hero was introduced to the world . . . . Brotherman: Dictator of Discipline.
Created and illustrated by Emmy Award Winner, Dawud Anyabwile (fka David Sims) and co-created and written by sibling Guy A. Sims. Brotherman crushed major barriers within the comic book realm and demonstrated to a new generation of artists that they too can cease following the stereotypical standards that the traditional comic book industry had set forth for years. The influence of this series inspired a plethora of talented youth and adults to draw from their own experiences, tell their own stories and own their own businesses. To Draw from the Soul is to unashamedly reach within your own creative genius and break the cycle of industry dominated creative mind control!
Upon it’s release at the NYC Black Expo in April 1990, Brotherman, through it’s parent company, Big City Comics, Inc. had independently sold 750,00 books worldwide and it is still heralded as the most endearing Black comic book of our time. The series ceased after it’s eleventh issue shortly after the passing of the siblings parents. The brothers have continued to develop the comic series however have not published a new book until now. After a 12 year hiatus the original art and concept designs no longer lay dormant. The rebirth is now! Come view original works from this historic comic book series that inspired a generation of artists worldwide.
