State of the Re:Union is a public media program that celebrates stories of real people through an exploration of a city. Help fund our documentaries!

State of the Re:Union (SOTRU) is a public media show that seeks to unify its audience by telling the stories of real people through an innovative exploration of a city, detailing how things come together and what pulls them apart. Each radio episode, host Al Letson travels to a different American city or town and explores how community is created. Who are the people who help bring it together? What are the issues they face? How does the culture of an area shape the people and vice versa? Through a unique mix of storytelling, cultural excavation, music and multimedia, SOTRU brings community to life.

With the mainstream media, it's easy to get the breaking stories and headlines 24 hours a day. But when you funnel a city through the lens of headlines, it can create the impression of chaos and conflict. State of the Re:Union takes a different approach. We travel to the smallest towns and largest cities and celebrate how people and communities are coming together to figure out solutions to some of our nation's biggest problems.

Our public media show strives to make the most of today's multimedia landscape to reach new audience members and engage younger listeners like never before. Combining one-hour radio episodes, video documentaries, video podcasts and a media-rich website, State of the Re:Union's diverse, multi-platform programming creates an immersive and inspiring audience experience.

Your pledge will help us produce one of this season's video documentaries. This video documentary will supplement the radio show centered in Austin, Texas, a city wrestling with its identity. This struggle is not a result of a natural disaster or economic meltdown, but rather its success. We examine how residents there are embracing the entrepreneurial spirit and taking advantage of the city's unique culture. Your support will pay for the videographer, travel costs to Austin and all of the editing work for the video documentary.
