About this project
The Most Popular Fair (documentary) on Earth is a portrait of the Hillsdale County Fair, a 161-year-old quintessential county fair held each fall in Hillsdale, Michigan.
There are county fairs and state fairs and country fairs all over the United States, but somehow this little fair manages to draw people from hundreds of miles away, year after year. Historic buildings, rolling hills and a sense of community combine with personalities as diverse as the food to create a unique atmosphere that gave it the title of the Most Popular Fair on Earth.
There are some essential (and costly) components that I need to finish this film and bring it out into the world. To start with, post production costs like color grading and sound mixing to make sure the film looks and sounds the best it can. Replication, distribution and copyright fees are also prohibitive. Your contribution to the project (for which you'll be rewarded handsomely) will help remove those barriers.
I don't just want to move a few DVDs, I want people from all walks of life to connect with The Most Popular Fair on Earth. I'd like kids in urban areas that may have never seen a "real" fair to get a feeling for what a county fair is all about. To achieve this I plan to send this film to as many film festivals as possible and this kickstarter campaign will help cover the festival fees and distribution costs.
Working on this film has been a hectic, stressful dream come true. After working in government and corporate video for nearly 20 years, I'm finally getting closer to my dream of producing this documentary. It is such a relief to say that I am nearly there. Thank you for helping me finish this project!
