About this project

WHO WE ARE
Brewing Grounds for Change is Milwaukee’s first and only collectively-owned & all-volunteer coffee shop that serves only fair trade coffee. All money that Brewing Grounds makes in sales is used solely to replenish product and pay bills within the shop.

Over the summer, Compassionate Cake became available to East Siders when Jessica decided she would allow Brewing Grounds to be the first and only hub for her all-vegan cupcakes to be sold. Over the summer months, we have been graced with many of her interesting flavors and designs but have not even come close to sampling all of her more than 80 different flavor combinations she boasts. Milwaukee is the City of Festivals, and Compassionate Cakes has brought several themed cupcakes into Brewing Grounds, from the Wisconsin State Fair cream puff vegan-ized to a cupcake adorned with a white chocolate Eiffel Tower.

By the end of summer, it was discussed and decided that Jessica would bring her talents into our very own kitchen at Brewing Grounds! Now that Compassionate Cakes has a home on the east side, we will be able to offer much more vegan bakery than just cupcakes and in a much timelier fashion. (Think cookies and rice-krispie squares!

In addition to the new vegan treats that will be available, we are looking to expand our menu with delicious vegan and vegetarian food for every meal!

HOW WILL THE MONEY BE USED?

We need your support in order to purchase an oven to complete our kitchen so Jessica can have a commercial space on Milwaukee’s East Side. Please have a look at the rewards we’re offering in return for pledges. We will need to raise $3,000 by October 31st, 2011. The more money we are able to raise over our goal, the easier it will be to transition vegan treats (of all kinds!) into our volunteer-run cafe.

Thank you for reading our proposal and thank you for your support!

Brewing Grounds is a collectively owned coffee shop on Milwaukee's east side. Dedicated to fair trade coffee and service to the community, all of the owners are equals and volunteer the hours that are put into Brewing Grounds. We are currently seeking to expand our efforts further into the community by offering a classroom space, independent publishing, a local music distribution center, art gallery, youth outreach, more concerts and a group meeting space. Our endeavor means a lot to us, as we are so passionate about fair trade coffee and community outreach in a city that has loved us in return!
