About this project

*** WE MADE IT PAST THE FUNDING GOAL!! BUT DON'T STOP YET! ***
(read the update: http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/brentrose/50-characters-in-50-weeks/posts ) EVERY DOLLAR THAT COMES IN WILL STILL GO TO THE PROJECT (BETTER EQUIPMENT, AND HIRING MORE ACTORS). I DON'T WANT TO SOUND GREEDY, BUT IF WE'VE GOT UNTIL MIDNIGHT, WHY STOP NOW? THANK YOU SO, SO, SO MUCH FOR YOUR SUPPORT!***

*** UPDATE: BILL PULLMAN IS IN!! Bill Pullman, star of stage and film (While You Were Sleeping, Independence Day, Sleepless in Seattle, and a million others http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0000597/ ) has pledged to do an episode of 50in50 with me!! This is, of course, GIANT. Bill has a list of credits a mile long, and is currently on Broadway in Oleanna (go see it! http://www.oleannaonbroadway.com/ ) with Julia Stiles. Him offering to do an episode with me is a giant coup... but it can only happen IF the project gets funded! Please help make this happen! THANKS! ***

Why Should You Help Fund 50in50?

I think there are a lot of elements that make this project special. I am extremely proud of the above episodes, especially considering they were made with a budget of $0.00 and the help of my friends. I learned a lot during the first half of 50in50, and though I was really just figuring it out as I went, the project has received critical praise (see below) and a tremendous amount of support. Much of the support has come from other actors and artists who have written to tell me that this project has inspired them to stop waiting around for something to happen to them and to go out and create some opportunities for themselves. That means a ton to me.

All that said, after finishing the first twenty-five episodes, I see clearly where the project can be improved. That's where the funding comes in. One of the biggest improvements I want to make is I want to compensate actors and crew for their time. Not only will this benefit those artists, but it will improve the quality of the show by making more people available more of the time, and it will give us more time to get every bit right. Also, the technical side things would be vastly improved (without using much of the money). I currently have one lavaliere mic (can only mic one person at a time), no lighting equipment, and I'm shooting on an older camera that has a lot of bugs. So all of that would get better.

I have a lot of ideas that I am really excited about. Some of them are incredibly ambitious, but if you watch the videos above and see what I've been able to do with a budget of zero, I hope you will believe that with a small budget I would be able to create some really wonderful, professional-caliber films. I know $10,000 sounds like a lot, but if you think about it, when it's divided among twenty-five films, that's only $400 per film, which is nothing by industry standards, yet I know that I could create something really wonderful with it.

I hope you'll consider pledging. Thanks so much.

Best,

Brent Rose
