Shadow Boxing
Shadow Boxing is a feature length film about an amateur boxer, James, struggling to connect with the world. Living in isolation in the grimy under belly of Bushwick, James constantly trains for a fight that never comes. He finds himself unable to punch back at world dead set on his destruction. Self medication and a nightmarish past haunt James with a dark shadow that finds him in the dappled motion of the city streets, sideways glances of a subway car, and in his own mind while he sleeps. Finally given a shot a salvation, James must face his biggest fear. Having always ducked, moved, and gotten out of the way of life, James will find out what happens when he decides to start punching back.
Production
We are currently in pre-production on Shadow Boxing and plan on shooting July 10th - July 24th. All of the funds we are raising right now are going to the costs of production. After we shoot the film and do a rough cut we will attempt to raise more funds to finish the film.
We are currently accepting submissions and in talks over casting with Selective Casting. The process involves an in depth look at the characters that Joshua and John have created and the certain types of actors who can embody the spirit of each character. The lead role of James will be played by John, but the search for the supporting characters is on. We are so lucky and well aided by the professional and creative team at Selective Casting. Carol Nadel, the casting director, takes each project to heart and her inspired way of dealing with the connection of actors to the story will create an audition scenario that should yield great choices.
The scouts are out and the locations and permits are being locked down. Joshua’s vision of the film requires such a unique look at Bushwick, Brooklyn that a team has been assembled to bring as many different facets to the scope of his eye.
The work at Mendez Gym continues for John. As the shoot approaches the workouts are now focusing on the particular demands of the character. The boxing scenes in the film are starting to be choreographed under the eye of the film's boxing guru Dell.
The Breadth family team of producers are growing. Meetings concerning the exact details of the business for the end of the month of May, and the month of June have been set. In these two months the groundwork will be laid for a secure and smooth approach to the films JULY 10th filming date. A shooting schedule, union business, and general paperwork is being sown up and mailed off. There is a lot to the making of a film that happens way before “Action!” is called, and this team is here to see it happens quickly.
