"Safety Matches" is an independent film project that deals with a young woman as she struggles to take control of her life.
This film is the second collaboration between director Sarah Meismer and cinematographer Brandon Woodard. We are both students at The University of Montana pursuing degrees in Film Making. Our goal with this piece is to create a visually rich and emotionally evocative piece that we can proudly submit to film festivals across the country.
"Safety Matches" is the story of Alice, a timid young woman who fights to stay in control of her relationship with her boyfriend - Cameron. After he breaks up with her, she find an outlet for her emotions in a vintage pack of safety matches. Eventually, Alice finds that she can take control of her life by becoming out of control.
This film will be starring two fantastic local actors - Jami Jacobson and Gordon Marshall. Jami is currently attending the University of Montana pursuing a double major in Theater and Psychology. Gordon is a film maker / actor who graduated from The University of Montana with a BA in Media Arts.
This film is being made in collaboration with The University of Montana's Media Arts Film Department, which offers us a unique opportunity to work with amazingly talented and hardworking film students. Everybody on this film set will work for free, donating everything from their time to their equipment to help make this piece a reality.
Our goal is to raise $2,500 to help ease the burden of production costs on the producers (Sarah and Brandon). Every cent we raise from this fundraiser will go directly back to the project and the results will be seen on the screen. We want to shoot this film with the latest in digital cinematography technology - the Canon C300. We feel it is the next step in helping us tell our story through the camera. We also have a limited amount of lighting equipment at our disposal, so we are hoping to rent a modest HMI lighting package. There are also many other areas that will need funding, including set design, hair and make up, food for actors and crew, transportation costs, and film festival submission costs. Considering the larger scope of film productions, $2,500 is a TINY budget, but we're confident that we can effectively tell our story with this amount.
