• How will the money be spent?

  That is a great question, and the answers might surprise you.  As I mentioned in the video above, writing a book is a lot more than putting ink to paper these days.

  Pre-Publishing Services - $2,000 - $8,000
  This includes a number of services that will be required, services that many profession writers receive and the average reader is unaware of. 

  Cover art design (paperback / hardback / sleeve) Professional formatting, possible chapter illustrations Editorial review Full copy editing ISBN purchasing

  Marketing Services - $5,000 - $10,000+
  It seems that it's hardly enough to just put your book out there and hope for the best.  When you consider that there are over 100 books being published per day, it takes money to push your name to the top.

  Printing of review copies to be sent to publicists Agent services for contacting and engaging with publicists  Market outreach with media to garner some attention Working with a firm to develop a continuing marketing strategy

  Distribution Services - $1,000 - $5,000+
  There are a number of options for distribution; traditional copy print, print-on-demand, and digital distribution.  Each have their strengths and costs associated with them.

  Totaling $8,000 - $23,000+
  And this really is working on the cheap side of publishing.  Publishers pay huge amounts of cash to buy their placement in the brick and mortar stores like Barnes and Noble.  Getting your book on that table near the front door is not just coincidence.

  Obviously, all of these fees do not include my time, and the upper tier is far more than what I am asking but I will gladly write for free and cover what I can if the community is willing to show faith in the project.

• Why write a novel and not another game?

  The beauty of a novel is that we are all artists in our own minds, crafting amazing worlds and seeing things that only our imagination is capable of depicting.  A novel allows the words to describe a place or sensation that is nearly impossible to replicate without the amazing talents of a Pixar quality studio.  I have found that writing has allowed me to break the video game shackles and focus on a personal story that is colored with a rainbow of emotions.

  Writing this book is my opportunity to slow the pacing down from the typical frantic nature of the game that inspired this fiction.  I consider this my chance to maybe pull at your heartstrings as you read about the two main characters and get to know their quirks.  You may laugh, you may cry, but in the end I hope that you smile when you think back on the journey that unfolded.

• What is special about this story?

  A blend of genres, this story is grounded in a Science Fiction world with just a hint of fantasy to help craft a universe that feels fresh.

  The relationship between the two main characters is equally as interesting as the many other threads of story that surround them and fill the world.  The peaceful moments of reflection will be a sharp contrast to the frantic and sometimes dangerous events that occur throughout.  Fans of the game might notice a few nods throughout the book.

  This novel touches on many things including fears about the future of Earth, corrupt governments, and the existence of intelligent life in the emptiness of space.  No punches are pulled in this gritty story, and every chapter has a laser focus on development of a main character, or is a catalyst to keep the story moving.  Because of this philosophy, the book will not be a massive 800 page tome, forcing you to grind through filler chapters.  Instead, I hope to have a fair-length novel that reads easily and makes a great conversation piece amongst its supporters and fans.  I want it to be a book that any young adult or seasoned reader can finish.

• You reached your goal, what happens next?

  If this campaign exceeds its goal, know that every penny will go back into expanding this fiction through a number of mediums.  I have big plans for this world.  Higher funding means a greater chance of those plans becoming a reality and having the capital to succeed.

  In addition to future novels, I do hope to return to video games.  Additional contributions can help fund another story in this growing universe, one that can be told across novels, comics, and video games for PC or Xbox360.  But, before there is a future for this fiction, the first step depends on you and the Kickstarter community.
