THE FILM
My upcoming short suspense/horror film, THE HIKE, is the story of a teen couple who hike up to a remote stone cabin in Albuquerque’s Sandia Mountains. There they encounter a strange mystery and something pretty darn scary. Oh yeah, it it may be tied to a secret military base a few miles away. Imagine Hitchcock meets X-Files... or Fringe.



PROGRESS

There are two parts of the filmmaking process that cost money: production (actually shooting the movie) and post-production (editing, music/sound effects, color, special effects, etc.). I raised the money to shoot the film from family, friends, Mastercard, and Visa. Plus the 25 people who worked on the shoot (cast and crew) were awesomely generous with their time and efforts. We shot over the course of five days last month -- and got some really amazing footage. Now we have to turn it into a movie -- via editing, music, color grading, special effects, etc. This is where we need your help.

WHERE YOUR DONATION WILL GO
If we are able to achieve our funding goal, we will be able to turn the raw footage we shot last month into a finished film. All the money will go towards editing, music, sound effects, 3D models, and other necessary special effects. If we raise more than our target amount, we'll do an even better job with post production. Every penny we raise will go to make THE HIKE as cool as possible.

SECRET PUZZLE: WHY $1663?
Honestly, we're going to need a bit more than $1663 to pull this off. I'm putting more of my own money into this to make up the difference. But there's a fun method to my madness. The number "1663" has a special significance in New Mexico. It's associated with a certain location in the state. A location filled with mystery and secrets. The first project backer to figure out what 1663 refers to will get a special recognition, plus a pledge reward bump to the next level. There are two hints hidden in the video above to help you figure out this puzzle.

JOIN OUR ADVISORY PANEL
As I mention in the video, THE HIKE is a prequel to a feature film I hope to shoot in the summer of 2010. I think it would be amazing to pull together an advisory panel of people who are into this project to read the feature script and provide input on everything from casting to locations to spreading the word -- as we develop the feature. So that's one of the rewards.
