This is a film based on a short story about a girl running away from home and finding herself in a world of danger.
Our story begins deep in the woods
With a mischievous girl that was up to no good
Who wasn't concerned about rules or authority
Until soon when her life would be her only priority.
"Go to bed with no dinner" she mocked her mother. "Mow the lawn Hanna" she mimicked her father. "How come I never see them do any chores? It's always Hanna do this Hanna do that". She kicked up some brush as she walked deeper into the woods, when suddenly she stumbled upon a large run down mansion. "Woah this place is in need of a serious renovation" she exclaimed. Weary of approaching the house her stomach rumbled and she thought maybe she could score a free meal. She peered into the boarded up windows but couldn't make anything out. She began to ring the doorbell Ding Dong Ding Dong. After a short while of nobody answering she pounded on the door. BOOM BOOM BOOM "hellloooooo". She let out and sigh and sat down on the front steps. "Stupid old house I bet nobody lives here anyway". Just then the front door creaked open. She opened the door ever so slowly. "Who's there?" She asked in a sheepish voice. She heard the faint sound of music behind two large doors. She pressed her ear to the door to get a better listen. She opened the door to reveal a large banquet hall with food spread across a long table. "Hello?" She said, but heard no response. "Nobody will notice if I take just a few bites" she thought. Hanna sat down at the table and began to gorge herself on delicious meats and cakes. Waving around a turkey leg with a mouth full of food she mimicked her parents once more. "No dinner for you Hanna" she said in her fathers voice. "Clean your room Hanna" she mocked her mother. Eventually she was full and excused her self from the table as if she had been dining with company. "I wonder what else this place has to offer". Hanna walked out of the banquet hall and into a library filled with books. She pulled one off the shelf and sat down in an arm chair and began to read. Page after page her eyelids became heavy and she drifted off to sleep. *SLAM* the front door slammed shut. Waking up startled Hanna thought "Its late I better get home before my parents ground me for life". She tried to open the front door but it was locked tight. "Hello? Who's there?" She asked "Hahaha" an ominous voice chuckled. "Who are you?" Hanna asked. "The better question is what am I? Hahaha". "Well then what are you?"
The voice began to sing.
I am this house, these walls and these floors
These boarded up windows with creaky old boards
Built by the souls and the tears that they weep
Out in the back where there bodies all sleep
Brick by brick and each nail that they lay
So you feel at home a welcoming stay
Once you have entered you cannot leave
Unless you are dead and decomposing
But do not fret theres no need to fear
because I can give you the life that you've always dreamt here.
After running through the house frantically trying to find a way out, she came across an unboarded window in the kitchen. As she approached it a bird perched on a tree branch outside cawed at her, Key Key it cried, key key it cried again. "Key key?" she thought. "What a peculiar noise for a bird to make". Hanna climbed up to the window to crawl out when all of a sudden a skeleton jumped up with an outstretched arm lunging for her. "Ahhh" she shrieked and fell back into the house. She ran down a hallway only to be confronted with a locked door. "Come on open you stupid door". She noticed the door had a lock on it and remembered the peculiar birds strange caw. "Key key, thats it!" "But where is the key? she thought. She remembered seeing a globe in the library with the inscription "A key to your world". "Thats it!" She bolted back into the library and tried with all her might to pry open the globe. It flung open and low and behold a key lay before her. She grabbed the key and as she did the house began to rumble. Suddenly the furniture and and furnishings came to life. The arm chair that she had once been sitting in sprung to life and charged after her. She raced through the house and into the kitchen, tripping and losing a shoe. The arm chair and other furnishings got stuck in the doorway viciously trying to get through. Hanna picked herself up and ran to the door with the key in hand. She inserted it into the lock and gave it a twist. Success! Just then the vicious mess of furniture burst through the door and down the hall. Hanna opened the door and immediately slammed it behind her. Looking out to discover a vast graveyard in front of her with what appeared to be a way out at the end. The vines on the house started to wrap themselves around Hannas ankles. She shrieked an dashed into the damp foggy graveyard. Skeleton hands began protruding through the ground and grabbing at her legs. Running past crypts and tombstones Hanna made it to the fence line. She jumped over and vanished into the darkness. The house then fell silent waiting for its next unfortunate guest.
Why do I need funding?
I'm currently a waiter at a mom and pop restaurant and working on the film has been a second priority to paying daily living expenses. Every dollar made that's not going to food or bills has been going to this film.
What is your money paying for?
Set design (Paint, Plaster, Canvas, Etc)
Lighting (Lights, Diffusion gels)
