Rachel Lipson's Blue Balloon Songwriting for Small people music school will be hosting the first all Children's Songwriting Showcase on June 5th, 2010. The showcase will feature 10 of Rachel's talented songwriting students (ages 4-10) performing their very own *original* and beautiful songs. This event will kick off the launch of the new music school, Rachel's one-woman songwriting school for children ages 4 and up. Support this new endeavor, as Rachel leaves behind her cozy job at the artsy Saint Ann's school in Brooklyn Heights, to start her own little songwriting school!

The songs these kids have written are all truly beautiful...they are not all silly and hokey, which the average person would expect from such small children. The kids have a fun time with the songwriting and take it seriously. Rachel's approach to teaching is unique. The children find a tune on their guitar and put words together to make up new songs. They work towards recording their own songs into an iPhone at the end of each lesson. The recordings must then be edited in the studio for better sound quality and burned onto CDs for the kids to listen to and share. This process inspires and motivates them while building their self confidence and creative expression.

For the upcoming showcase, there will be CDs of the children's songs as well as all sorts of printed materials: original children's song books, hand printed stationery made from handmade rubber stamps based on the kids' drawings, etc. The school needs a video camera to record the show (and for future children's music videos!) as well as better recording equipment and portable editing software (that the kids can learn to use!).

Your support (however big or small!) will be greatly appreciated by the school as a whole. Funding the slightly boring stuff (like the event space rental and general event expenses for the show on the 5th) as well as all the more interesting stuff (the recordings, videos, promotional materials, tote bags, buttons, posters and banners) will enable Blue Balloon to focus on the songs, the recordings and most importantly the songwriters!
