Thanks Gene, I completely understand where you're coming from and I try to address that in my latest blog post. I just recently relaunched the new Power-Laces.com site, with a timeline for release and future updates will be posted to there.
Creator Gene Paton 2 days ago
So Blake what's the hold up? How's the new work space going? How's the additional funding going? Let's have some photos of these Power Laces that we've all contributed towards and been waiting on for coming up 3 years now. It's sad to hear you've had a rough year or two, but when you enter into a business proposition with investors you need to keep your focus. Sadly your lack of evidence to support Power Laces has led me to be reluctant to back any new inventors on KickStarter, which is sad for those who do have the commitment and gumption to follow through on their promises. Some material evidence would be nice.

Thanks for the update Blake, sorry to hear about your loss and your general bad start to 2013.
I think all the backers know how awesome the final product will be, so happy to wait, but always nice to get updates :-)
Creator Blake Bevin on February 8
Apologies for the late response- 2013 hasn't gotten off to the smoothest start. Suffered an injury last month that put me in the ER which I believe contributed to a nasty infection I later developed. And right as I was recovering from that I suffered a death in the family.
It delayed my timeframe B=but I've moved into the new work space and I'm building the online store up. I'll also be heading to Nevada and Florida in the next coming weeks to get some late stage capital to aid in final production.
Creator Roridge on February 2
There hasn't been an official update since September 2011, would be really nice to get some good detail.
Creator Jeremy Hoffmann on January 29
Any update on the project?
Creator Blake Bevin on November 3, 2012
Hi there, aiming to produce the final prototype for the initial manufacturing run by the end of the year, and pics and video of that unit will be posted before the rollout.
Creator Jonathan Hodgins on November 2, 2012
Hi Blake - Just wondering if we could get an update on the progress of power laces. could we see some pictures of the factory tours or product development? I can't wait to see the fruits of your effort!
Creator Blake Bevin on October 11, 2012
I'm sorry to hear about your mother's medical setback. We should begin rolling out the initial production before the end of the year. Thanks for the continued support!
Creator SuM on October 9, 2012
Hi Bevin- Just wonder how things are going. My mom had a medical setback this summer and I am hoping to be able to offer your Powerlaces to help her along! Let us know how you are doing as well!
Creator Blake Bevin on September 16, 2012
Yup, and your entry was updated. Thanks, Sean!
Creator Sean Mc Bride on September 16, 2012
Hey Blake! I'm not sure if you kept track of everyone's shoe sizes. I originally said size 12. Now I will need a 13.
Creator Blake Bevin on September 14, 2012
Hey there Jonathan, just responded to your direct message :) Thanks!
Creator Jonathan Melo on September 13, 2012
Can we get an update please?
Creator Blake Bevin on August 4, 2012
Thanks Brian! I'll make sure to update that and I'll be confirming with everyone just to be on the safe side :D
Creator Brian Webster on July 29, 2012
Blake, I recently moved and need to give you my new address. Should I just use the address you use when you send out your updates? FYI, I still have faith in you, can't wait to see them when you're done!
Creator Blake Bevin on July 6, 2012
Hi there, I realize it seems to be taking awhile. A little longer than I or any of would have preferred, I'm sure but it's a learning process for me as well and I'm moving forward as best as I can. You should understand I was hampered at the start from various factors.
One of my initial mistakes as someone new to startups was slightly underestimating the cost of the project, which would have been fine but, and I never published this before, I didn't receive a lot of pledges. After a project is successfully funded Kickstarter tries charging all pledges at once, and continues to do so over the course of the next few weeks.
Whatever the reason, whether incorrect card information given or actively moving money out of the account to neg on a pledge, in the end a sizable proportion of pledges was never received. I've always been one for a challenge though and after the initial setup costs, including legal fees and research and development, I began having to rely on my own income to continue the project which has slowed developments slightly but I am happy to do as I believe in what I'm doing.
A couple of months ago my contract finished at my "day job" and I was informed that the business would be sold for the land, so I took the opportunity to leave that position to work on my projects full-time. Of course I do need to make a day to day living and cover expenses so by necessity I have to split my time between various operations, one of which is a publication company which is my only source of income as of late so I'm forced to devote some time to it.
Again, I apologize for the length of the project but as I've said I'm working to move forward with manufacturing by late 2012/early 2013 and I thank you all for extending your patience.
I hope you all enjoyed and had a safe 4th of July, and please have a great weekend!
Creator Gavin Maxwell on July 5, 2012
Not long now til the 2yr anniversary of funding this project... seems like a distant dream now... I travel all over Asia, including Vietnam, Thailand and Philippines (I was in all 3 in the last week) and never have any trouble with internet. Forgive me for sounding jaded, but there's been very little apparent progress and I know for a fact other kickstarters have seen blood in the street for delays of a few weeks, let alone months and years. I'm amazed that 50 people here are so complacent (those who placed pledges for actual shoes). I know what you built and showed was a prototype, but some real updates and expectations vis-a-vis your "imposed deadline of late 2012" would be greatly appreciated. The recent update on your website from May did little to quell the inner feeling that my $200 has done little except help fund your vacation around Asia. I'm happy to be proven utterly wrong.
Creator Blake Bevin on June 13, 2012
Internet connection has been spotty- been in SE asia checking in with manufacturing contacts. Updated the power-laces.com website recently with some technical concept images, though had to leave a little of the inner workings out.
Creator Blake Bevin on April 30, 2012
Absolutely, just settling in now and getting over a nasty bug but there will be an update at power-laces.com this week.
Creator Jonathan Hodgins on April 28, 2012
Hi Blake, Can we get another mini-update on whats going on? How did the factory tours go? any pictures or design screenshots?
Creator Blake Bevin on February 21, 2012
Hey there, thanks for writing. Of course I understand a bit of frustration as regards to product release. I still believe that I'm track for a mid to late 2012 release. Most of 2011 was spent working with an engineer in the UK, trying to shrink the mechanism as much as possible while maintaining durability. It's important to note that I've always said that the prototype I made, though it worked as a demo, wasn't fit for mass production and needed almost a complete overhaul.
I admitted that the skills for that was beyond me, which was where the engineer came in. The design work was done in multiple stages, with a lot of back and forth. With his help, we came up with a solution that seemed to fit the bill. He was only a mechanical engineer though, and to really complete it I will need to finalize some subsystems with software and electrical engineers. it's pretty standard work, we won't be reinventing the wheel, so this part of the process will only take a couple of months.
The software is really the heart of the project, as this device will really be made for the medical community. As such there will be systems in place for things such as gait monitoring and even physical rehab.
A few of the things that have slowed me down over the past few months include my personal health and my job. I'm fine! But there have been some internal issues I've been dealing with that have lead to short jaunts of time where I can't do much of anything. And my day job has gotten more demanding of my time steadily over the last year, (and I believe might be a contributor to my health issues) which was one of the reasons I decided to quit and focus more on my project, full time.
I've already bought the tickets overseas, and will be leaving in late March as soon as my contract is up with my job. These past few weeks have been spent moving nonessentials into storage and such. Australia will act as my homebase for the next few months for trips into Asia. I have family out there, along with a few people who have ideas for the cosmetic design of the product- nothing that will inpart any manufacturing delays.
I suspect finding the right manufacturer will only be a matter of weeks. When it's all totaled I believe that I will meet my imposed deadline of late 2012. I appreciate everyones continued patience, and please, don't hesitate to contact me at my personal email address if you have any questions or just want to talk! BlakeBevin [AT] Gmail[DOT]com
Creator Gene Paton on February 21, 2012
Hi Blake, it seems you've really slowed down with this project. From when we initially backed you and your hyped up positive attitude, to now when you're touring a lot of the world still in search of a manufacturer and discussing designs. Can you please give a in depth update of exactly what you have been doing with your time and the funds we've supplied you?
Creator Blake Bevin on February 2, 2012
I'll be in Melbourne, but if I make my way up there I'll definitely let you know! ;)
Creator Gavin Maxwell on February 1, 2012
Where in Australia? Would be great to catchup if you're in Sydney!!
Creator Blake Bevin on February 1, 2012
Hey there, I've opted more for personal updates, from people messaging me through twitter or facebook as opposed to mass emailing that was sometimes caught by spam filters and such. I received provisional patent protection but the bigger news was I'll be leaving for Australia at the end of March to spend a bit of a time with some product designers to finalize some things, and then heading to Turkey and China to tour some factories for manufacturing.
Creator Gavin Maxwell on February 1, 2012
Any updates on the design & patents etc? Interested in hearing some more about the progress in general... can't believe how quiet it is here. I'm on another project and people are screaming because the last update from the developer was a mere 9 days ago...
Creator Blake Bevin on January 12, 2012
Had some trouble arise with my day job, so I've turned in my notice there and have to finish out my contract. I've already bought the ticket overseas, leaving 3/9, and yesterday I just received my travelling Visas. It was about 6 weeks later than I would have preferred, but still leaves me on track.
Creator Gavin Maxwell on January 11, 2012
Hi Blake, how's the factory tours coming along?
Creator Blake Bevin on November 18, 2011
Yes, I had to reschedule the factory tours for January do to scheduling conflicts, but that has been put on the books and we'll have a manufacturer shortly after.
Creator Gavin Maxwell on November 16, 2011
Hi Blake, any updates? Cheers!
Creator Devin James Holland on September 21, 2011

Thanks for the links! I'll be posting a response/update after Nike's announcement, but in short I believe we're targeting different markets, and Nike's product shouldn't interfere with my system that is being tailor made with accessibility for the disabled in mind.

I heard about the Nike concept. How does that go against the patent you got? I am just wondering if you are going to beat them to the punch.

Thanks for the link! I'll post a response soon about Nike's announcement as an Update and on the blog.

hey Chris, I defintely sent you out a resend and it should have been there by now. Could you write me at blakebevin (At) Power-Laces.com to confirm your address? Before I send a new package out I want to make sure there's not a problem with the shipping address.
Thanks!

No problem G.L, adding your info to the resend list :)

I just realized reading your latest update that I've been waiting in vain for the keychain :)
You've made me really curious about the extra fetures you're building in, can't wait to see the prototype!
Creator Blake Bevin on February 11, 2011
Hey there, I think the weather has been a factor in the shipping times. Rest assured it should be there soon :)
Creator Leigh McKenzie on February 8, 2011
No goodies received yet, is there a delay ? I hope things are progressing smoothly in other areas Blake :)
Creator Jonathan on February 8, 2011
I joined Kickstarter just so i could comment on this awesome project.
Just wanted to give a word of support...please ensure this is available internationally as I know MANY people I have showed this too have a GENUINE interest in buying these shoes. They just are sceptical of paying money (backing) for a ‘prototype’ which may ‘fall apart’ after a few days of wearing.
If you could make that shoe within 12 hours and with scrap parts...i can’t wait to see the final product.

Hi Blake,
I know I am late on the draw here, but I would absolutely love a pair of these shoes. Is there any way that I can get a pair from you even though the "backing" period is over?
