Introducing an easier way to enjoy plants in your home and office - no green thumb required!

We have developed these nature-emulating vivariums so you can enjoy tropical plants and animals that wouldn't normally thrive in your home/office environment AND display them in an attractive, safe, low maintenance miniature vivarium.

The Problem

During the mid-1800s, as the relationship between oxygen, plants and animals became better understood, the concept of creating a “balanced” vivarium (particularly the aquarium at the time) took root.  Unfortunately, today, many of those early advances in keeping plants and animals in a sustainable, healthy environment have been discarded for plastic plants, colored gravel, and cheap containers that end up creating a toxic environment for the plants and animals.

Our Solution

We bring the vivarium into the 21st Century, utilizing current technology to create an enclosure that is sustainable and healthy, but also surprisingly easy to maintain.  It is like a micro greenhouse that runs itself.

We designed and built our vivariums from the following criteria:

• All systems necessary to emulate a tropical rainforest environment
• An all encompassing product, allowing for ultimate control of the internal environment with no peripherals outside the vivarium except lighting
• A minimalistic design beautiful enough to be a centerpiece in the home or office; limited visual obstructions, mechanicals hidden or minimalized
• Ease of access to both the mechanical components and display area of the vivarium
• Ease of set up, use, and maintenance by end user

After two years of obsessing over the design, development and prototyping, we have achieved a nature-emulating, minimalistic miniature vivarium that meets all of our criteria and is perfect for the desktop, table top, display case – just about anywhere!

How It Works

It is critical to have air and water movement in a rainforest-emulating vivarium to prevent bad bacteria, disease and fungal growth. With our systems, we have essentially achieved the miniaturization of a greenhouse.

Our air flow system pulls air from one part of the vivarium and pushes it through to another part of the enclosure ensuring that the plants receive constant air movement.  This system significantly improves on existing passive air systems that rely on vents and screens to move air. 

The water flow system (available in all enclosures 18" and over) hides a small pump and humidifier in a back access compartment.  There is also plenty of room in this compartment for a heater and/or chiller (sold separately), which would allow you to simulate day/night temperature fluctuations necessary for some types of orchids.  The pump pulls water through the calcified clay substrate, which filters the water and aerates plant roots, and pushes the water over a drip wall or other water feature.  The water flow then activates the ultrasonic humidifier, which produces an enthralling mist just as if you were watching the clouds roll through the tree tops of a rainforest.

Where You Come In

This is where you come in.  We are in the final stages necessary to bring this product to market, but need some help!  So, we are offering you the opportunity to pre-order a Kickstarter-Only Limited Edition version of our product.  Each vivarium will come with a custom laser-etched engraving on the front bottom panel identifying it as a limited edition item. 

Our first financial goal is $4,000.  These funds will be used to purchase a small computer-controlled laser cutter/engraver and negotiate better pricing on materials and components. The purchase of a laser cutter is critical to achieve the precise quality and cost controls necessary for an outstanding, reasonably priced enclosure. 

Our second financial goal is $20,000.  If we can raise more than $20,000, we will be able to purchase the larger computer-controlled laser cutter/engraver needed to produce our larger vivariums more easily and with less waste.  The larger vivariums (20"x16"x16" and 24"x18"x18") are perfect for collecting standard sized orchids, dart frogs and other tropical plants and animals. (Note: you can upgrade your pledge to a higher level at any time.)

Kickstarter is all or nothing!  So, if we are UNABLE to raise our minimum goal of $4,000, then your credit card will not be charged and it will take us a lot longer to bring our products to market!  If we meet or exceed our goal, then once the project period is over, your card will be charged and we will get started on your new vivariums!

You can pre-order one or more Miniature Orchid Desktop Vivariums ALONE or as a COMPLETE KIT.  (We are open to adding additional levels if people want multiples at a discount; otherwise, just combine existing levels for the number of vivariums you desire.)

Each Vivarium-Only pre-order includes the following:

• A custom designed vivarium made of high quality, scratch resistant, cast acrylic, cut and assembled in our own production facility for quality control (we want only the best for our products and this was the way to ensure top quality at a reasonable price point)
• Air Flow System (patent-pending) with fan.  Fan powered by USB and/or AC wall adapter (your choice, except for 18" which requires a normal wall adapter).
• Vivarium care sheet and warranty information
• Laser etched engraving identifying your vivarium(s) as one of the limited edition Kickstarter vivariums
• Shipping included in price
• Note: the 18", 20" and 24" Vivarium-Only option ALSO includes the water flow system compartment, pump, filter, humidifier, drain system, and hasp with brass lock

Each 8” and 12” COMPLETE KIT order includes the following (everything for a completed set up):

• Everything in the vivarium-only option, PLUS
• Substrate in "natural" color as shown (aka, drainage level, which is necessary for humidity; if we raise a minimum of $5k, we will offer a color choice of black, natural or red substrate)
• Background (choice of cork bark panel or tree fern panel)
• Miniature orchid selected for suitability in the vivarium selected, such as size of vivarium, humidity and light requirements, etc.  (Note: you will get to choose from a few different orchids via a survey after the funding period ends.)
• Orchid care sheet for your specific type of orchid

 Each 18” COMPLETE KIT order includes the following:

• Everything in the vivarium-only options, PLUS
• Thermometer
• Hydrometer
• Substrate
• Background (choice of cork bark panels or tree fern panel pre-cut for easy install)
• Miniature orchid selected for suitability in the vivarium selected, such as size of vivarium, humidity and light requirements, etc.  (Note: you will get to choose from a few different orchids via a survey after the funding period ends.)
