The One and Only Bill Davis recorded his first EP at historic RCA studio B. Help him get it pressed to vinyl and he'll put you in the liner notes!
I was recently given the chance to record for one evening at RCA studio B. The place is like a working museum and we used every great mic in the collection. I sang into one of the mics Elvis sang into and played guitar into the mic that Roy Orbison and Eddy Arnold sang into. We played the vibraphone from "Mr. Sandman" into the same mic used on that recording. The piano we used was played by Floyd Cramer on "Last Date". We recorded live with no punches and I didn't wear headphones. Over the course of 5 hours we got 5 songs. It was possibly the greatest night of my life and you can hear how much fun we had in the recordings.
We waited until we had a chance to get into Oceanway studio A to mix and it was definitely worth the wait. We mixed to analog tape through the biggest Neve console ever built. The finished result is better than I could have ever expected. I have decided that this situation calls for vinyl and I plan to release a 7" single(3 songs). The 7" will come shrink-wrapped in a custom printed jacket, with a digital download for all 5 songs. Shipping will be included. I am aiming for a mid-July release.
