BIG BOY tells the funny, painful story of what happens to family and friendships when a single mom joins her son’s s struggling band.
We are raising funds to get our movie out into the world. We raised $10,000 to shoot the film, and we couldn't be prouder of our efforts.
Now we need additional funds to pay for music rights, sound mixing, color correction, and film festival submissions.
The more money we raise, the more polished the film will be -- and the more likely it can have a theatrical distribution.
We think you'll agree that we have a smart, entertaining movie on our hands. We just need a little help to make sure everyone can see it.

SYNOPSIS:
Big Boy is a coming-of-age story, only here the person coming of age is a 46-year-old divorced mother. Holly Grace doesn’t realize just how empty her life has become as a pharmaceutical rep until she gets lured into singing in her son’s garage band. Her 22-year-old son David isn’t thrilled with any of this – with his mother’s self-discovery or her romantic dalliance with his best friend. But David has his own growing up to do. Still living at home, he has thrown everything he has into being the next Kurt Cobain. While his mother struggles to embrace her talent, David must come to terms with his own limitations. For neither mother nor son is this an easy process, bringing out long-buried resentments in their relationship.
The film features music by talented local Austin singer/songwriter Hilary York, whose style sets the tone of the film. As the character of Holly, Hilary is a natural: her voice is bluesy, suggestive of hard-earned wisdom. As she gets over a husband who left her for a younger woman, Holly is transformed when she sings. Several musical numbers -- including covers of songs by Jack White, Steve Earle, Lucinda Williams, David Bowie and Eliza Gilkyson -- are also featured in the soundtrack.
There are no special effects in Big Boy. No car chases. No weaponry. No ten-foot-tall blue people with tails. Instead, the story is altogether real and human, dealing with the complex emotions that linger long after a marriage is supposedly over, as well as with the many conflicted feelings that never quite get resolved between parents and their adult children. Big Boy is a film about love and understanding. The movie will be marketed through music and film festivals, aiming first for theatrical distribution in select cities and then nationwide. We also anticipate healthy DVD and video-on-demand sales. The filming and picture editing of Big Boy are complete. All of the onscreen music has been recorded and mixed. The rights to all the songs have been secured, and the film has twice been screened for private audiences (to really positive reviews). However, we still have much to do to get this film into a theater near you. In the coming weeks, we will record and mix several off-screen songs, after which a professional sound mixer and a color correction technician will put the final touches on the film.
