About this project

The Project Lodge opened in early 2008 on the near east side of Madison, WI. Our mission: to attract inspired minds to participate in an ongoing dialogue in a common space. Over the past four years, our dialogue has encompassed visual art, music, spoken word, comedy, craft, food, film, and theater. We've welcomed hundreds of performers, artists, and creative thinkers from down the street, across the country, and occasionally around the world. We are all ages, donation driven, and 100% powered by volunteers. We are sometimes known as Pro Lo, and often known as pro-collaboration, pro-innovation, pro-revolution, and pro-Wisconsin.

Project Lodge is committed to supporting our local artist and musician community by offering an affordable, malleable space for rehearsals, recording, and shows.  You might walk in one day and see a musician laying down drum tracks- the next, a local photographer staging a shoot. We've been happy to provide a home for successful local endeavors like Monsters of Poetry, Black Market Madison, Surrounded by Reality, and Vintage Madison. Along the way, we've earned a reputation for being a tiny space hosting big talent: musicians like tUnE-YaRdS, Frog Eyes, Breathe Owl Breathe, White Hinterland, Titus Andronicus, Julian Lynch, Vandaveer, Gregory Alan Isakov, Megafaun, Osso; film screenings by Everything is Terrible! and Sufjan Stevens; poets and writers like Eileen Myles, Michelle Tea, and Joshua Clover; artists like Balthazar and Michael Dumontier & Neil Farber.

To survive and thrive well into the future, we're embarking on our first ever capital campaign.  All donations to our Kickstarter project will go toward improving our current facilities (i.e., fixing the wear and tear on our stage/movable walls/speakers/monitors/cables/microphones, securing a consistent Wi-Fi signal, purchasing a new video screen) while enabling us to settle into a more permanent home in Madison.  Anything above and beyond our goal will go into our general fund- paying for the compact florescent light bulbs, flat white paint, penny nails, Magic Erasers, and generic paper towels/garbage bags/hand soap that we generally buy with our own money.
