We want to repurpose professional books by hand to conceal Italian glass flasks, bringing a little joy (and booze) to all.
Bender Bound's booze books will be featured on NBC's TODAY show with Kathie Lee and Hoda on January 2. Thank you, Kickstarter!

Print is dead, long live Print!
A. Our idea
We've come up with a new twist on the book flask. Rather than mass-produce fake books, or concentrate on the classics, we want to take professional and reference books like legal reporters, medical books, cook books, dictionaries, even parenting books, and repurpose them to conceal Italian glass flasks.

Our goal is to inject some excitement into these otherwise bland texts and bring a bit of levity and rebellion to the people who need it most. And if we happen to create the perfect gift for all occasions along the way, so be it.
A. We need your help!
Books are expensive, even used books. One Federal Reporter costs $25. Cook books and medical books aren't much cheaper. We are hoping to eventually buy books in bulk to keep the costs down, but for now we make do with the quantities we can afford.
And almost all the other materials we want to use are crafted in some exotic location around the world. For example, the glass flasks are imported from Italy, but they fit so beautifully in our books!

The wax we use for our Bender Bound seal is handmade in Scotland and the decorative background paper is handmade in Nepal.
Bottom line: quality is not cheap.
Getting our books cut is also expensive. We are working with a scenery shop and they are offering us a great deal, but it still runs upwards of $150 per hour to use their tools.
And putting it all together in a kickbutt Brooklyn woodshop can be costly. For example, we need to build giant clamping devices like this one to properly glue the books.

C. Our plan for the $3,000
Just so you don't think we are going to squander all your generous donations on comic books and cotton candy, here is our very carefully thought out plan for the $3,000.
Time on the scenery shop tools = $800
D. Our plan beyond $3,000
We hoped, but never expected, to have such a strong outpouring of support. While we set our goal on raising $3,000, we can definitely use more funds to continue to expand into other categories of books. We are now planning on repurposing: Wealth of Nations, Advanced Programming UNIX Environment ($145), Oxford dictionary, What to Expect the First Year, and Mastering the Art of French Cooking. So please, keep those pledges coming if you believe in our project.
We would also love suggestions on: (1) future categories of books we should use, (2) cheaper sources for used books, especially in bulk, and (3) any popular/classic, thick, hardcover computer programming and parenting books that are cheap.
Thank you so much for your time and support!!!
