Numerous teachers and students have requested a 30 minute educational version of Vanishing of the Bees for classroom use. In order to properly make this happen, we need your help.
Our first priority is to hire Oscar-nominated editor William Gazecki to bring the film down in length from 87 minutes to 30 minutes. With his expertise, he can tailor the film to play within the time frame of a typical class. In addition to a shorter version of the film, we will be creating a comprehensive study guide and additional materials. Experts who specialize in creating study guides as a living need to be hired. This is very time consuming and quite expensive. But the payoff is enormous because we create a tool that will be a part of schools for generations to come. We could not be more excited about the prospect of bringing the film out into the academic arena.
We wholeheartedly believe that the children of today are tomorrow’s stewards of the earth. We believe our film can serve as a powerful tool to teach students a vital message about the importance of the bees, the environment and our agricultural landscape. We’ve been impressed by the vast number of students who have expressed tremendous interest and concern and even started bee clubs and gardens in their schools as a result of having seen our film. We’ve also heard from numerous parents, telling us that the film has inspired their children and planted a seed of hope for the future of the honeybees and all life on earth.
Currently we are offering an “educational” version of our film on our website, however, this is simply a copy of our current film, which runs 87 minutes. It can go into libraries, but is too long to present in the class. And we have absolutely no study materials or special features to go along with this to help teachers with their curriculum.
To complement the classroom length version, our comprehensive study guide will be tailored to offer topical questions that instigate open dialogue and critical thinking about the bees, the environment and the way we grow food. Our newly cut DVD will also offer students special features on subjects such as the biology of hive, how to reduce pesticides around the home, and practical solutions to empower students and affect change.
After four years of hard work we are proud to see the film getting out into the world and sharing this vital information. Vanishing of the Bees is more than a movie – it is a movement. And we are relying on your help to bring the film to the students of today – and leaders of tomorrow.

Filmmakers George Langworthy and Maryam Henein started working on the documentary Vanishing of the Bees in early 2007. After four years of hard work, the documentary was completed in August 2010 and has been distributed to audiences with a grassroots campaign titled “Bee the Change.”
The film has won critical praise, film festival awards and informed and inspired audiences across the globe. Beekeeping Clubs, Environmental organizations, Slow Food Chapters, Permaculture Groups and Gardening Clubs from all over the world have used the film as a tool to raise awareness about the bees along with their own complimentary missions. Our Bee the Change campaign has truly brought people together who are interested in making a difference.
Recently, The United Nations and Unesco have invited the film to screen in Brussels and Paris to celebrate World Environmental Day.
Filmmakers George Langworthy and Maryam Henein feel blessed to be in service to the honey bees and hope to be able to empower youth all over the world with an educational version of their documentary.
