After the Quake tells the story of Dr. Lisa Denny and her return to Haiti as a repeat volunteer in the wake of the catastrophic Léogâne earthquake.
Synopsis
After the Quake tells the story of Dr. Lisa Denny, an American family practice physician fluent in Haitian Creole, and her return to Haiti as a repeat volunteer in the wake of the catastrophic Léogâne earthquake of January 2010.
The short documentary film will focus on what drives Dr. Denny’s volunteerism and how her previous experiences in Haiti affected her decision to return to the Caribbean nation. After the Quake will unfold against the rich background of Haiti’s own past—its struggle for self‐determination and its long and varied history of colonization, settlement, and political upheaval.
Carefully crafting an objective narrative that portrays volunteers, Haitians, and the aftermath of the horrific earthquake, the film will serve as a learning tool to help improve cross‐cultural understanding for future participants in one of the greatest humanitarian efforts in the last decade.
Where the money goes
Your donations go directly towards transportation to Haiti and on the ground expenses while filming there. Donations above and beyond that amount will be used in later stages of production so that this film can be seen by the widest audience possible. If there are additional funds left at that point they will be donated to Save the Children, a non-profit charity working in Haiti for the last 32 years.
