All About how to play Crumb Catcher!
Hey folks, Chris here. We've had a few questions, so I wanted to give a little better idea of how Crumb Catcher's gameplay is handled. Since the whole point of the Kickstarter is getting the game's creation funded, we don't currently have a prototype to show (although we are working on a mockup to post pretty soon). I figured I could post a few sketchy storyboards I worked up to help explain things a little bit, each one starring an unintentionally sinister-looking version of the Lumberjack character.
Each stage of Crumb Catcher (or each 'beard' as we call it) features a different character. For each beard you'll get a series of courses (i.e. a bunch of food on a platter) that slides in from off screen. Each character has their own platter (the Lumberjack's here is a slice of log) and their own foods that will appear. They also have their own diets, likes, and dislikes.
You only have a little bit of time before the platter slides back off the screen, so do your best to pick the right foods (up to three selections) to combine them into a super food (for example, in the storyboards below you can combine eggs, toast, and bacon to make a lumberjack breakfast!) If you choose poorly, you may get a disgusting combo, or worse yet, something your character won't even eat!
After that, all you need to do is drag the food up into your character's mouth to turn it into crumbs that fly out, hopefully to end up stuck in your beard. The direction you drag the food into the mouth determines where the crumbs will fly out (an especially important thing to consider for characters with just sideburns, like Metal Mutton Chops). In fact, I'm developing a whole Crumb/Beard Physics Engine (patent pending) to make sure everything behaves as it should!
The platter slides off the screen and is replaced by a new one full of more food to choose from, and so on until the stage's courses are all served.
Well thanks for reading, everybody! Enjoy your Sunday evening, and keep your eyes peeled for more exciting updates on Crumb Catchers!
