May the Good Times Roll...
Hello friends, family, and strangers we'd love to know,
As you can probably see, we reached our fundraising goal via Kickstarter! We are ecstatic about it and have been dancing around the shop excited about having so many generous supporters. We're also very excited to have been found by the Kickstarter staff and featured on their staff favorites page! That said, we've been trying to figure out how to keep the fundraising momentum once we reach the mark. We actually need more funding than what we've asked for, but we didn't want to be greedy by asking for too much on Kickstarter. This is our third attempt at using Kickstarter to raise funds and we are surprised at how easily we've progressed and reached our mark this time. We decided that explaining our process and need for funds would be the best way to keep this momentum going. So here it is:
3500 is our minimum goal. That mark means that we will be able to move forward and open our doors this year. That pays for city opening fees, part of the architect bill, and costs of ingredients the day we try to open. But that mark requires a lot of risk and sacrifice. If an inspector makes anything difficult, those costs could quickly exceed 3500. It also means doing without for a little while and delaying some payments.
Our actual current needs are closer to double our goal. Anything we raise beyond our minimum goal will go directly to things like:
Immediately paying our friends/contractors who have so graciously offered to work for us with delayed payments.
Buying a cash register. (we planned to just use our phones for credit cards and a box for the cash.)
Buying some much needed kitchen equipment like a real commercial mixer, a better slicer, doubles of utensils like spoons and spatulas, more than 3 knives, extra fruit storage containers (so we can do more pies :), scales, pie containers, biscuit containers, and unbreakable french presses.
That also helps us have a back up if the city changes anything on us last minute (which isn't unheard of).
If something incredible happens and we have extra money beyond expected in our account the day we open, we will hire someone to help us right away. We are very excited at the ability we may have to create jobs in such a down economy. We've been bombarded with great resumes from people who would be perfect additions to our team, and we all know what it feels like to be unemployed and need a job.
Please continue to tell your friends and family about supporting us and let the good times roll!
(besides, you gotta admit the rewards are awesome ;)
