About this project
Net Neutrality is a serious issue. Internet Service Providers (ISPs) like Comcast, AT&T, Verizon, and Time Warner are already hatching plans to limit or block content providers like Netflix and Youtube in favor of their own services. Without Net Neutrality, Internet innovation dies. The next Twitter, or Tumblr, or even KickStarter may never get made because they'll have to deal with each individual ISP to get their site on each one the same way cable stations have to deal with cable providers today.
Bad Monkey Studios (badmonkeystudios.com), together with Media-Alliance.org are producing a short animated film that, for the first time, sets up the Net Neutrality debate in simple, black and white terms that are easily digested by everyday, non-techie folks. The idea is to compare the Internet to water pipes. Since ISPs are promising exclusive, branded content to tempt customers its a lot like offering them fizzy soda out of their faucets. It tastes great but has no function or substance, unlike water which can do all sorts of things and is needed for everyday tasks. You love HD movies, but you need that blog, video chat, and news site just like you need to bathe and wash the dishes.
We are in the process of creating a three minute long, beautifully animated film in the style of 1960's Hanna Barbara cartoons complete with nostalgic voice over. We want to create something not just functionally informative, but attractive and entertaining and easy to understand. So much of the materials pro-Net Neutrality organizations are producing are complex, and technical to the point of confusion. We want to make this issue understandable and approachable to everyone it affects. We're hoping all these factors will catch the attention of everyday users and news outlets alike.
The film example above is the completed 2 minutes of the full 3 minute film. To get the rest out in time for the new congress in January we need your help. This is a topical issue that changes every day. To be effective we need to go live as soon as possible.
If you care about keeping the the Net a free forum of information and ideas then help be a part of the growing movement to keep it that way.

I'm a work at home father who's been getting as much done as he can when he can. I've animated 30 short films over the past 10 years. My work has been screened in US and Italian theaters, on TVs across Europe and Asia, and on millions of computer monitors. My projects usually have a social slant and I work mostly with progressive non-profit organizations.
