About this project
We're doing it, you guys. We're launching a record label.
Tommy Siegel (of Jukebox The Ghost and Drunken Sufis) and myself (Ryan Little of Tereu Tereu) grew up together, have played in bands for years, and finally decided to start a label. It's called Bad Friend Records. We're putting out music digitally and on vinyl--some of it is our own music, and some of it is just music we believe in.
The first physical release we're putting out is a 7" single by the Travis Morrison Hellfighters. After years of playing with The Dismemberment Plan, Travis Morrison went solo and formed the Hellfighters. They progressively got tighter and more interesting over the years, and just when they reached the pinnacle of their powers, they recorded three songs with Devin Ocampo and broke up. It just didn't seem fair that those songs should wither away in obscurity, so we had them properly mixed and mastered (by former Hellfighter Thomas Orgren) and we're putting two of them on vinyl. The third one will be a bonus download.
The thing about vinyl, though, is it's damn expensive. That's why we need your help! To get this label off the ground, and to get these Travis Morrison songs out into the world, we'll need whatever you can afford to give. Kickstarter is an all-or-nothing operation, so if we don't meet our goal, the project doesn't happen, and these killer songs may never see a proper release.
If by some beautiful miracle we reach more than our goal, the money will all go into the label so we can put out more music. We have records in the works by Tereu Tereu and Drunken Sufis, and we have a debut release from the band Raw Feels set to drop digitally in January. We're keeping busy, and anything you can offer means more great music has a shot at entering the world.
Oh, and if you're wondering where that video was filmed, we were sitting in a car parked on Florida Ave in DC sometime around 1:00 AM. Tommy had just played a show at 9:30 Club, I had just played Velvet Lounge, and it was one of those rare occasions where we were both in the same town!
