Kickstarter is a funding platform for creative projects.
At this very second, thousands of people are checking out projects
on Kickstarter. They're rallying around their friends' ideas, backing projects
from people they've long admired, and discovering things that make
them laugh and smile.
Every project is independently crafted, put to all-or-nothing funding,
and supported by friends, fans, and the public in return for rewards.
-
Independently crafted.
The filmmakers, musicians, artists, and designers you see on Kickstarter have complete control and responsibility over their own projects.
They spend weeks building their own project pages, shooting their own videos, and brainstorming
what to offer as rewards.
Rewards are things like a copy of what's being made, a limited edition, or a custom experience related to the project. This isn't Best Buy &emdash; rewards aren't shrink-wrapped and ready to ship. Once the project is funded, the journey to bring them to life begins.
-
All-or-nothing funding.
Every project creator sets their project's funding goal and deadline.
If the project succeeds
in reaching its funding goal
all backers' credit cards are charged
when
time expires.
If the project falls short no one is charged.
Since our launch in April 2009, more than 20,000 creative projects
have been successfully funded by awesome people from around the world.
But Kickstarter is about much more than money...
-
The big picture.
People come to Kickstarter to build community around their projects. It's inspiring to be supported by people you know, and amazing to connect with strangers who are discovering your ideas for the first time.
The feedback, press, and love that can come with
a Kickstarter project are just as valuable as the money raised. Ask anyone who's done it before. There's nothing like it.
Oh nevermind, I just saw the update.
Have set times been posted anywhere?
I hear there might be a lot of people hanging out outside 158 Bleecker Street for a couple of hours before the show starts. Maybe that would be a good place to have a meetup?
I too would be interested in meeting up with fellow solo ticket holders.
Dave, that sounds great. I am coming in with a good friend of mine but it would be awesome to meet some new people beforehand. My email is nuevafemme@hotmail.com. Let me know. : )
That is not a bad idea at all.
Er, make that 250 of us!
125 people only got one ticket, so a lot of us will be going to the benefit solo.
Anyone interested in a meetup before the show, so we don't have to be so lonely? :)
Man..i was just hours late to hear about this event...I'm thrilled for everybody that gets to go. Will it be taped? It would be a nice consolation if we could watch it, even if we can't be there.
Man, I would really love to see this show. Please let me know if there is any way possible to get a ticket at this point.
Hey Everyone...sorry for taking the weekend and end of last week before replying to questions or publishing comments. I wish I could tell you it involved a nice bubble bath, but you may as well just imagine it did. Mr Bubble take me away, you know?
Sara, you have hopefully gotten confirmation. If not, let me know.
Katie, we are unfortunately not set up to accept trades of names. If you purchased the ticket, and your name is presently down, it is you that gets into the show. I know that can reach the realm of Massive Suck for a friend who is more desiring, but if we open this door, we (1) present the chance for someone to profit unfairly off this and (2) it will create more confusion and work for those manning the door the night of, which means a longer wait time for attendees to get inside, which means unhappier posts on Brooklyn Vegan. At the risk of not having the optimal fanboy/girl audience, I've decided to stick to the rules - sorry!

Hi Ben,
I just entered my name, but I have a question:
I know someone who deserves to go to this event more than I do, if I show up to the event with him and present my ID, could he go in instead?
Thanks,
Katie
Hey guys - I have an extra ticket now! I know it's very short timing so whoever can email me at catbondo at gmail.com first will get it. Let me know!
Michael S.,
Some plans just fell through and I have one extra. It's yours if you email me by 11AM EST.

James
I realize it's unlikely, but in the off chance anyone has an extra ticket I'd also be interested in it.
I realize the chances are slim. But on the off chance anyone has an extra ticket I too would be very interested in it.
I'd be happy to make a $400 donation to the project if someone puts me on as their 'extra'.
DO any spare tickets exist out there? I'm going nuts having just found out about this thing!

all the love in the world to anyone who can help
Before he sends me HIS money, rather.
Question for Ben: Sorry to be a pain in the ass, but is there a way to get confirmation of the names we entered in the form? I signed up Michael Southwick (below!) as my plus one, but I'd like to send him something so he knows I'm not making the whole thing up before I send him my money. Or maybe you could just post a comment in response confirming that I'm not a scumbag?
Best,
Sara Cardace
Still looking for an extra... if my sister had a ticket, her face may explode. Hate to be hounding the boards, but I'm desperate!
Ben, the link to the form that you sent in the last email-- It says to enter MY name. To clarify, that entry form is for the plus one names, and our (the purchasers) names should already be documented, correct? Just want to make sure I get this right.
Oooh Sara pick me please! I just e-mailed you. I'll be your BFFL!
Mark, can I have you put your extra ticket in my partners name actually because I dont know if it will let me switch then ame on my original ticket. I will send you her name by e-mail.
Hi all! I've got an extra ticket and I need to nail down a name for it by tomorrow noon. Email me at scardace at gmail.com if you're interested. Thanks! - sara
Haha well thanks :)
Mark - its freeradical36 at hotmail dot com
thanks again!
Mike E., what's your email address so we can get this done before they ask for the names? Mike S., if I don't hear from Mike E. by the time the email request comes, I'll look your way. Thanks, Ben!
Thanks for the quick response Ben.
Mark, if you would like please e-mail me at freeradical36 at hotmail dot com and I will totally paypal you the face value for the ticket if you put it in my name. Thank you Thank you Thank you.
I'm ticketless, desperately seeking an extra from anyone... looks like I should've posted this 3 comments earlier lol
Mark, of course doing something like that is totally cool. We are all about the ethics of intent here. If you have a legit desire or need, we'll try to assist. We want everyone attending to have as good a time as possible. And fear not about little adjustments like that - we're humans, not computers, and we know how to read, and we know how to tell our computers to do things differently if need be.

Mark,
If the organizers are ok with this I would LOVE to buy your extra ticket off of you. Lets wait and see if they respond saying its ok. Either way, thanks so much for the offer.
Lots of us are looking for those pesky tickets Mike... I'd say count your blessings that you got one! :)
My buddy and I both were able to get tix, so there's an extra. I didn't see an option to change from $150 to $75 before noon today without canceling the entire order, so I didn't take any chances. I'd be happy to put your name in when that email comes asking for it in exchange for the face value via Paypal. I'll send you confirmation emails, screenshots, whatever for proof. You know Ben will take me off the list if I don't follow through. He seems to have made all of this really legit. I'm more concerned with hogging this extra ticket from a fan than the money. Someone please let me know if I'm not following protocol here. I will just eat the money if I am. It is certainly worth more than what I paid.
I was only able to get one ticket to the show and I really really would like to go with my partner (she is an even bigger Jeff Mangum fan than me). I am going to put my ticket in her name but it would be amazing if there was a way we could both go. So if anyone has an extra ticket that they would sell at face value (we'll even make an extra donation for Chris Knox) we would be eternally gratefull and be your best friend.
I'm really excited about this. I love concerts that go to great causes. I haven't been to a good one since Dark Was The Night Live, and I have a feeling this is going to blow that show away. PORTASTATIC!!!!
Ben, Thanks for organizing this Benefit. It's commendable that fans were able to purchase tickets and how vigilant you are against scalpers. I really thought I would have to buy a ticket off Craigslist for $300. I can't wait for the show.
Thank you so much Angela--we managed to get your released ticket!
Okay, I canceled the second order (for one) and just left the first pledge (for two) in place. Please let me know if there is any other confusion with this. : ) Thanks again!
Awesome! Thank you for the response.
Angela - Fear not, it looks like there was just some digital confusion since you ordered twice. You will be receiving two tickets.
-ben
Update: I found a buddy in Brooklyn who will take my second ticket.
Ben, should I assume that the confirmation email is correct, or the kickstarter "manage your pledge" page? I am not going to slit my wrists but I am getting anxious about figuring that out. : )
Selling tickets to the needy at face value is all good, and I bet The Ethicist would say the same thing. The only stipulation is that you have to have your names figured out by tomorrow when we set your purchases in stone.
-ben
Brittany,
My only fear about freeing up the ticket through kickstarter is that we would miss the window to purchase it and be back at square one. If you're willing to sell us your spot (again, only paying face value-- nobody is scalping here) then you could put my husband's name when you're contacted by kickstarter and we could mail you a check that was dated for a day or two after the show. This shows that we're serious about making good on our commitment but also provides us a level of security since we don't know each other. If this sounds like a reasonable option we could discuss it further off the comment board.
Again, we're not trying to circumvent the system here but we are traveling from North Carolina and it would be a bummer if both of us couldn't get into the show. We are not willing to pay any more than the $75.
Anybody else having discrepancies between what they pledged, the confirmation email, and what kickstarter says? I pledged 150, and received a confirmation email stating that I had admission for two, but when I go to "manage your pledge," kickstarter says I contributed 150 for admission for one. It is possible I am holding 3 tickets if this is incorrect, so keep checking back as the extra ticket will be back on kickstarter once I figure this out.
Jeremy, I have a friend who would absolutely show you around NYC if he could have your other ticket. He is from Long Island and practically spends all his time doing photography work in NYC and the surrounding boroughs. Let me know.
I can't believe I missed this. Would really love to go if anyone has an unclaimed ticket (for $75).
Brittany,
Thanks for responding. If there were some way for me to take one of your tickets off your hands, I'd be more than grateful. I know they are trying to block the scalpers, but I would assume it would be "legal" to pay someone the face value?
Jeff Mangum and NMH are like my Beatles. If anyone figures out a way to pick up an extra ticket or someone cannot make it, please PLEASE let me know.
You guys are so lucky.
