Paradise Lost and Other Scenes of Modern American Lostness
This project is to fund the production costs for Paradise Lost as well as printing and framing for my BFA thesis exhibition at MILK Gallery on May 21, 2013.
The work that I will be exhibiting will be a collection of photographs from my travels throughout America in the past 7 years. The photographs document people, culture, and the human condition of the current time for future references through photographs of various subjects and scenes. I focus on the natural untouched landscape, the evolving industrial landscape, the interesting characters that I encounter, the stories of experiences that they share, the animals that co-exist in these environments, and the way that all of these factors collide together at the given moment. The photographs can exist as humorous metaphors, ironic compositions, or nostalgic scenes.

Musical Accompaniment: The Inscape
Writing by: Marc Allesandria and Donnie Kerouac
Printing: Jason Burstein at Conveyor Arts in Jersey City.
This book is a collaborative effort from various artists. The first few pages will open with an EP recorded specifically for the book by The Inscape. This EP is meant to create more of a cinematic approach to the overall sequencing of the book. The book consists of three designers who are the bones of the book. If it wasn't for them the book would be random pictures throughout my room, as it was for months before their guidance. There are two inspiring essays that share experiences from travelers that I have encountered along the road. All of these ideas and consciousnesses will hopefully be adapted into a hardcopy by Jason at Conveyor Arts.

Travel and the methods of travel are important to this work. While traveling, I encounter new people to share experiences with and constantly make documents of these encounters. In specific scenarios the camera can become a shield or an invitation. I try to use the bus as the primary medium for traveling; it is a slow process that requires a challenging amount of patience. Extremely tiresome at times, especially during long distances, the bus provides traveling panoramic tableaux where I can observe the changing landscape en route to my next destination. An average bus rest stop lasts about 15-20 minutes. This limitation of time in the field demands me to make documents of the newly discovered environment before parting ways to the next location.
These images maintain a true reference to the particular time they were created possibly serving as a catalogue or record for future generations.

Thank you for reading this far!
Time... I have been so busy finishing the sequencing of the book that time really slipped away from me. The book will take 2-3 weeks to print and bind. If funded successfully, the book will have a little more time than that to become a reality.
Distribution... I really want to get the book out to the proper audiences. Upon completion and after the first books go out to the backers, I will send copies out to the proper institutions that have inspired most of the work.
