Update #3: Funding unsuccessful, who cares, so what?
Hi everyone,
So, as you all know the Guitar Games did not get successfully funded on KickStarter. It was a good experience creating the campaign, attending Maker Faire, and meeting people who were interested in the project. Thanks especially to those of you pledged your support.
I've answered a few supporters' questions directly already, but I wanted to spam everyone, and post to KickStarter, that this project is not dead, far from it. I'm still going to create Guitar Games and put it on the App Store, but it won't necessarily be as beautiful or as feature complete as I would like on launch day. It also may take a little longer to get there. If you're a supporter who has an iPad, midi connection kit, and a Rock Band 3 Guitar / game controller or MIDI guitar, I can make Guitar Games, in its current state available to you to beta test for me on https://testflightapp.com/ so sign up for that and let me know that you'd like to be involved. When I fully support generic guitars, I will post updates here again.
Thanks again to everyone,
Aure
Update #2: Guitar Games At Maker Faire
We had a great time showing Guitar Games to thousands of people at Maker Faire and over two hundred of them gave the games the whirl. We demoed the chord game with some new songs and the new fretboard mechanics that allows you to see what you're playing on a scrolling guitar neck.
The response was overwhelmingly positive with the most common reaction being "It's like Guitar Hero For Real Guitar!"
Thanks to everyone who came by! Here's some of our favorite clips from the show.
Update #1: Demo at Hillsdale Mall 5/14/2011
As part of the Maker Faire's Kid Club activities, I was invited to demo Guitar Games at Hillsdale Mall this weekend. It was a lot of fun and really great to see people play the game, enjoy it and we even got some cool quotes like "this is like Rock Band on Steroids!".
One girl played "We're Going To Be Friends" by the White Stripes on Guitar Games, and afterwards she was able to play the song without using the computer to cue her. That was great to see- it's exactly what I designed Guitar Games to be able to do.
I also had a great conversation with Adrian Freed, a world renowned music technology professor from UC Berkeley's Center for New Music and Audio Technology (CNMAT) who happened to be there as well. He seemed to enjoy play Guitar Games and agreed that it could be both fun and highly educational.
I'll be demoing a lot more this weekend at Maker Faire in San Mateo and I'll post another status update afterwards.
Thanks everyone!
Aure

I attended the event at the mall and as expected people fell in love with Guitar Games!

I tried it twice at the Maker Faire in San Mateo and it was the funnest thing I did there! For those of us who seldom pick up our axe anymore, it makes the guitar fun again as a worthwhile leisure time activity. Made me want to own a Mac!
