I have a Ph.D. from Caltech and I'm a musician, scientist, and software engineer. I've written music education software for over ten years, played guitar in the band Sci-Fi Lullaby, helped design the Roland VG-99 V-Guitar System, built my own guitars, and created the official Lollapalooza '96 web site.
I'll keep everyone posted about the availability of Guitar Games either as another fund raising campaign, or bypassing that and just releasing a less grand version of it on the iTunes App Store.
I'm really sorry your funding was unsuccessful. Any way to buy a beta version?
My 11 year old son is passionate about learning and playing his guitar. He and I came across Aure's booth at the MakerFaire in San Mateo. My son couldn't get enough of Guitar Games. We had to circle around a 2nd time to visit Aure again. No hesitation, I'm backing this project. I want my son to continue to enjoy learning and have fun.
I could only import MIDI or Guitar Pro once the tablature was synched with the actual recording which either takes good beat detection or a little human intervention. Tab text is even more problematic because it does not really contain any reliable rhythmic information. One of the easiest things to do is to slow down the track until you can play, it record that performance, and then speed it back up. This is all within the realm of possibility once the project has gained traction.
Of these games, i would be most interested in matching a transcribed bass line, and it would be really great if I could import MIDI, GuitarPro, or tab-text formatted bass tabs for it.
Hi Aurelius,
Matching a transcribed bass line, having to play the root note of the chord, or arpeggiating the notes of the cord all sound like fun bass games. Thanks for thinking of us!
Thanks Ann, I agree with your commentary on your blog. Let's hope I can fund a lot more grubstakers out there.
Hey Aure,
I just blogged about your Guitar Games (and my other favorite Kickstarter project) on my Time-Travel Whiplash blog, and mentioned it on Facebook. Here's hoping to drum up some more backers for you! http://timetravelwhiplash.blogspot.com
I got a lot of requests for having it work with bass and I think I could do something with your set up. One game could test you to match a transcribed bass line or be expected to arpeggiate the notes of the chord in the bass line in order to get points. Sound good?
May I humbly request support for 5 string bass as well.

Thanks Karl and Kitt, thanks to comments like yours and the feedback from the people at the mall demo, I am more certain than ever that people will love learning guitar with Guitar Games! Thanks for helping to make it a reality.
Cool and invaluable teaching concept, for sure. Most excited about the play by ear module. For me, that has been the key to a satisfying, life-long relationship with my guitar. Very happy to help get this product to market.
Hawt. Way excited about this!
