The Goal: to self publish a collection of the comics from The Panda Chronicles in book form
In addition to my long (don't ask 'how long') career as a painter and printmaker, I have been drawing my panda cartoons, Your Brain on Pandas: The Panda Chronicles, for almost 5 years. I started my blog, http://yourbrainonpandas.com in February of 2009, because my friends got tired of me chasing them down the street with a stack of cartoons clenched in my fist yelling, "Tell me they're funny! Please! Hey! Wait, you didn't read the one about the panda kindergarten yet!"
"SHOW US THE SWAG" ...Just thought it might get you a little more excited to see just what you get for supporting my project!
Many people want to know: Just what IS panda satire? And is there REALLY an Institute for Contemporary Panda Satire? I think you are making that up.
Well, to explain panda satire, I've asked Mehitabel to come in and 'splain it to you:
"But where did the pandas come from," you may well ask. The pandas entered my life in December of 2007; not through the cat door, but through a magazine article about pandas in China. One thing led to another and soon I was spending WAY too much time watching panda videos, and suddenly the cartoon ideas started springing into my head, quite uninvited. But these cartoons are not about your run of the mill bamboo munching pandas. Bob T. Panda and his friends compete in the Olympics, appear on talk shows, news programs and game shows, and have Fezbook profiles.
Growing up in an era when the Sunday Funnies were pages and pages long, I've always loved reading cartoons in a printed form. Since the days of big newspaper comic sections are gone and syndication is a distant dream, I have always wanted to have The Panda Chronicles collected in book form. So, this project was born, to bring my pandas to the printed page.
It has been requested by Bob T. Panda and Mehitabel (the cat) that they be allowed to tell you about this project

Yes. I have enough cartoons already for two more books now, and of course I'm adding a couple of new cartoons each week. The second book in the series will be called "Wheel of Pandas" and the third is "Nobody Expects the Panda Kindergarten."

I am going to make every effort to get the book done, printed and shipped to you in time for holiday gifting. As I mentioned, all the cartoons (actually several books worth) are done. I just ("just," she says!) have to finish formatting them and write the introduction and the acknowledgement page (that's about YOU all!) AND put it all together. I've budgeted my project to get some help if I need it on the technical side. So, the short answer is: Yes, (probably...I am a punctiliously punctual panda, after all.)
