I want to present an interactive abstract art show with the theme of paradox in life, as in wisdom in absurdity

Welcome to Kickstarter!

I am an artist. I am an abstract expressionist painter. I paint in a style that incorporates exaggerated form and color with symbolism to express my thoughts and feelings regarding different life experiences.

My plan is to raise enough funds to hold an art exhibit of my most current paintings. The exhibit I have in mind will take place in NYC. I have been reviewed and accepted  for a solo show at one gallery, another invited me to join their registry and wait list, the third is currently reviewing my work. The expenses involved will be for transporting the many large canvases from California to Manhattan, publicity, which includes announcement cards, posters, flyers, publications etc., opening night food and drink, one year of continued representation which includes publicity, online registry and possible future group shows, as well as addition gallery space fees. The estimated expenses for holding a solo show at this particular gallery are staggering, but the long term advantages are enticing. Once juried in, you can sign a contract to be represented for up to two years. Exposure in the New York art market could change the course of an artists career. Its an exciting proposition  anyway.

Why NYC?

Why New York? I have a few reasons actually. First, my current paintings reflect some  unusually less than ideal situations. These paintings were never intended to be decorative. I feel that New York is a good fit for art for arts sake. Second, I have a friend who is temporarily living in NY, who will help me navigate the city, and let me stay with her. Third,  if I really want to go for it, as in go big or go home, New York is big. Why do it this way? Well, rather than waiting for a solo to come along, I am charging forward and having one. Why? Because life is short. I am the goal oriented type, so working hard towards a daunting end is very motivating for me. I do better art with a deadline. It makes sense that to keep improving my craft, I need to have an imposing goal. Hence New York!

This is my idea:

I have this vision for an art show: It will be held in a place that looks like any other place.  From the outside the building will be old, built in another era, for other purposes. It will have a tired, serious looking entrance.  As you enter and travel  up an unassuming staircase, you may wonder if your time is about to be wasted. The door swings open, your eye catches a glimpse. Stepping inside, you are surrounded by glowing interesting form, and rich intense color. For the time you spend in this room, you are captivated. You are transformed into a moment, an experience. The content of each paintings is explained on cards. For each one there is a short commentary and a long explaination. You can choose to ignore both or read as much or as little as you are curious. The experince is similar to watching a movie, your mind is swept out of your day to day thoughts or struggles and is caught up in the depth and drama of shape and form and color. It might be a reprieve, or a social event. It promises this:

Something to see that you may never have seen before

Something to talk about

Something to think about

A different kind of distraction

this my hope and  my vision and my idea for an art show

SO...
