Send me to Sweden to study with one of my favorite artists Camilla Engman. I will reward you with art.
My heart skipped a beat...
when I learned Camilla Engman, one of my most favorite artists in the world, was hosting an art camp in Sweden.
Dream. Come. True.
Attending Camilla’s camp, I can experience a new culture, learn from a master (and one of my idols) and push my drawing, painting and collage skills further than ever. I see this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity as a crash course apprenticeship in new ways of seeing + making.
It's been a long time since I've been in a classroom or worked with a mentor. The occasional screenprinting and papermaking classes have not been enough to fulfill my need to grow, learn and develop as an artist. And for the last 8 years I’ve focused on Art School Girl, my paper goods company, designing products, art directing and curating. All the while encouraging and pushing my creative friends towards entrepreneurship in this thriving DIY cottage industry.
I enjoy connecting people and collaborating. Going to Sweden to study with Camilla is a way for me to turn my energy inward and revitalize my art-making practice.
The Backstory
Since discovering Camilla (and crushing on her paper collages) several years ago, I've followed her work via her beautiful blog — a piece of art in itself. Peppered with shots of everyday episodes, it’s truly life through the artist’s eye.
For the second time, Camilla is partnering with Angela Ritchie's Ace Camps to offer an amazing continuing education opportunity for creatives. Angela's vision is to connect likeminded people in educational art adventures around the globe. Each camp is limited to a small number of participants to ensure a very hands-on, immersive experience.
The Logistics
Raising $2,995 will feed me, house me, get me into camp and cover my airplane ride to Sweden. If I exceed this goal (!) any additional funds will fuel additional travel in Sweden and more exposure to Scandinavian art + design, as well as the production of new work.
Here’s the breakdown:
Tuition: $1,595
Airfare: $1,100
Per diem: $300 (food, transportation)
TOTAL: $2,995
My Plea
Thank you so much for checking out my project. I am so excited to be a student again: gaining knowledge from a mentor and master, taking my skills to another level and learning new ways of seeing and making.
Please consider backing my project and joining me on this adventure. I promise to reward you with beautiful objects, heartfelt gratefulness and of course instant karma!
Here’s to putting the "school" back in Art School Girl...!
With much gratitude,
♥ Amy
