We have been running an All Ages DIY music space, The Glass Door, in Brooklyn since December 2008. Our landlord recently kicked us out of the building in order to build condos and we are now in the process of moving and expanding into a bigger and better space… and we need your help!
We have found a location that used to be a party supply store called Party Expo. The space is amazing and we are all very excited we found it. The new space will have an art gallery, a music venue, practice spaces for bands to rent out on a monthly basis, along with a recording studio, art studios with access to silkscreen setups, woodworking, metal workshops. There will also be a guitar, pedal, and speaker making studio. It will slowly become a massive factory for the creation of art and music.
In the past year we have put on over a hundred shows with various types of music and with bands from all over the world. Some of those bands include:
Japanther, Spankrock, The Deathset, Fiasco, Monotonix, Ninjasonik, I am The Avalanche, The Reveling, Apeshit!, Aquadora, Soft Black, Graffiti Monsters, Bang Bang Eche!, Math the Band, Slingshot Dakota, Anton Glamb, Caspian, DJ Dirty Finger, Rev Mcfly, Bodega Girls, Algernon Cadwallader, Cipher, Aviation Orange, Hank & Cupcakes, Hooray For Earth, Purple Crush, Irepress, Moving Mountains, Thriller, Cerebal Ballzy, Murdertronics, Binary Marketing Show Dangerous Ponies Spires, The Catalyists, 1994… just to name a few.
We will have 2-4 shows a week. We also will have 1-2 art shows a month, do video/movie screenings, and various other events.
We have a bunch of different rewards for all of you who are sick enough to be part of the new space in whatever way you can. We have a bunch of friends who have invested in the space so far, but we are still short of being able to make the full deposit and build the necessary walls/bathrooms/etc to make it work.
We have TWO WEEKS to raise the necessary funds to get into the new space. Please donate and tell all of your friends about it as well. We have a lot of rewards that are great deals for bands and promoters as well. Thank you so much for supporting us so far. We are excited to continue throwing the best shows in the universe and creating a space for musicians/artists to be inspired to make the best art ever.
And just to give you a sense of who we all are, here's a little background info on us.
JOHNNY AQUADORA & STEPHANIE MONFORT ran the house-party venue Retox, which was a constant good time. Then they opened The Glass Door, which sounds like the title of an old porno, but in reality was a venue that just made you feel like you were IN a porno.
ED ZIPCO co-founded Chief Magazine, a monthly online interview publication that covered art, music, writing, comics, photography, parties, and random stuff from Japan. And the Japanese stuff wasn't just animated gifs. He also photographs for Vice Magazine and throws parties til tomorrow's sunrise.
NICK CHATFIELD-TAYLOR has directed music videos for Matt and Kim, Ninjasonik, Japanther, Parts and Labor and Rza. He runs Article, a music/zine/t-shirt/book publisher. He throws some pretty one-of-a-kind parties, too.
Cheers!!!
P.S. This is what our first fundraiser looked like:

That's right, five necked guitar.
Project location: Brooklyn, NY
We will shake your hand, give you a hug and if you're alright with it, maybe kiss you on the cheek.
We'll send you a drink ticket that you can use anytime at any show. If you want to come by the space at two in the afternoon when we're just hanging out there, we'll even get you a drink then.
Three free drink tickets! College! Spring Break!
Party Expo was formerly a store that sold party goods and other random stuff. The basement is currently filled with odd goodies. For $5 we will send you an Avon collectible plate from the 1992 Olympic Games. We have about 200 of them right now. Should I limit this reward to 200? Man, what if 201 people want Avon collectible plates and we run out?
We'll get you one free merch item from any band that plays. Unless Slayer plays. If Slayer plays, we'll get every merch item they have.
You can come to any show in the next year you want and have a couple drinks on us. And if one of us tries to stage dive, we will make sure not to aim for you.
Come to any show you want and drink for free the entire night. I'm sure you can find some way to make your money back on this one!
You and a friend enter and drink for free for a night! Still your choice on when you come and what you do once you get there. You can even just come, get really jaded about New York, and then leave. If you want.
Come on any night for free. Bring a friend because that person is getting in for free. Don't bother trying to sneak in booze because you're drinking for free. And you can hang out with the bands in the green room all night. And one of us is going to bring you a cake.
Your band can play a show we got going on a weeknight and we'll record the show for you. If you want it on a CD, we'll put it on a CD. If you want it on a USB drive, we'll put it on a USB drive. If you want it on reel to reel, we'll... really, reel to reel?
For $300, you get a weekend show, a live recording, you can drink all night on us, and co-owner Steph will take you out to dinner before the show. Damn.
Do you want to throw your own party? Give us $500 and the space is yours for a night. Invite your friends. Keep all the profits from the door. Have a good time.
For $1000 you get on a show we're putting on during the weekend, you get to drink all night, we'll film your show and record audio on it, we'll take you out to dinner and we'll give you two months of practice space use.
