Adrift is a tower defense/shoot 'em up where players cooperate to repel threats and guide their colony through hazardous space.
Adrift is a cooperative game in which you and up to 5 friends work together to defend your colony as it drifts recklessly through hazardous regions of space that are home to marauding pirates and rogue asteroids.
“Project Crowded Space.” The last great work by inhabitants of a dying world. With no habitable planets close enough for colonization within a human lifetime, the scientists of Earth created great arks that would bear their species to salvation. The planet’s remaining resources were consumed in the construction of these drifting colonies, resulting in a mere 2851 ships to serve as the seeds of the species. Colonists charged with ensuring the safe arrival of their craft would be adrift in the void for generations upon generations before reaching their pre-plotted targets. Little did they know, what hazards the infinite expanses of space hold…
Choose your ship from three unique classes, each of which has its own weapon sets and skill trees. Outfit your ship as you see fit from an array of weapons, armor, and engines, then head into space to test your mettle against hordes of incoming enemies and asteroids. As the game progresses you will earn skill points which can be used to unlock unique abilities and perks, making your ship even more powerful! When you kill an enemy, you can collect the scrap they leave behind which you can trade in for new ship parts, towers, and upgrades.
Build your defenses from a host of different towers, all of which are specialized for different situations and enemy types. Lay minefields, place turrets, and construct walls to create an impenetrable defense that can survive the dangers of space.
Join forces with your friends in up to six player co-op to tackle even greater threats. Adrift’s enemy generation system will auto-scale the difficulty based on the number of players in the game and the desired challenge level of those playing.
Oh yeah, and Adrift will be released on Windows, Mac, and Linux!
Three Unique Classes: Blast your enemies to smithereens as the Pilot, create an impenetrable wall of guns as the Mechanic, or just collect all that sweet sweet scrap as the Scavenger.
Customize Your Loadout: Each class has a unique selection of weapons to tackle a range of threats that can emerge from the void, ranging from simple, yet effective laser cannons, to micro-drills that will just keep burying themselves into your target until they explode!
Build Your Defense: Build and upgrade towers around your home base to repel vicious pirate raids and devastating asteroid barrages.
6 Player Co-op: You and up to five other friends can work together to take down powerful enemies and survive the onslaught!
Battle Powerful Bosses: There’s always a bigger fish as they say, and spacefaring is no exception, there’s no telling what hulking beasts are waiting out in the blackness of space to destroy your tiny colony.
And More!: Ambushes, rare ship parts, derelict battleships, survivors in need of rescue, the list of things you can run into out there is endless!
Kickstarter is an awesome way to create a game that everyone involved will want to play. It gives us the unique opportunity to work closely with our fan base and get tons of feedback from everyone throughout the development process. It’s rare that an indie company can have such a large base of testers and critics, too often we become cloistered in our development caves and are robbed of fresh perspective from the people we care about most, the players.
We want to make a game that everyone enjoys and has ridiculous amounts of fun playing. With Kickstarter we can do this, but we need your help! We’ve worked full-time on Adrift for just over 2 months and it’s looking cooler every day, but the game still has a long way to go before we can call it complete. We want about 6 more months to work on this game full-time and get it to completion, but after almost a year with minimal income, our funds are running out. Pledging will help us survive for the remaining duration of the project and allow our team to make a game that all of us love.
Some of the remaining work that needs to get done includes:
Random Events: While drifting through space, we want players to run into more than pirates and asteroids. We want to add many more interesting encounters to the game, like derelict space stations that are big enough to fly inside of, and plague-ridden ships that will infect your colony unless they are avoided.
More Enemies: We love fighting off pirate attacks and blowing up asteroids, but the game needs more variation. We want to add more enemy types with different weapons and attack patterns, self-destructive ram ships or tower destroyers for example.
More Bosses: The prototype has only one boss in it, and we want more! We want a variety of original bosses that will attack in interesting ways and challenge the teamwork skills of any group of players.
More Weapons and Ship Parts: Currently, each class has 3 types of weapons that they can use and many different auxiliary ship parts like armor and engines. We want to add more weapon types as well as legendary ship parts that have their own, unique functions. Our goal is to make this game as customizable as possible, so that anyone can create their own style of play.
Improved Networking: The prototype is not quite as smooth as it could be. There are some issues that are caused by lag which we want to eliminate, and at the moment, players can only join a game if they know their friends ip address. We want to be able to take the time to iron out these issues and create a lobby system that is intuitive and easy to use.
Steam Greenlight: We all envision this game being on Steam and are already designing it to take full advantage of achievements and trading cards. Not only can we add more layers of content to the game, but Steam will also make playing with your friends much easier.
Polish: We want this game to be as highly-polished as possible before the final product gets in your hands, with your pledges we can focus all our efforts into making this a fantastic game.
Captain’s Log $45,000
Each time you play Adrift, you will be following the story of a colony drifting through the void. There will be a large number of random events and bosses in the game to challenge the teamwork of your group. The Captain’s Log is a feature that will track which events and bosses you've encountered in addition to giving you a little more information and lore about each one. The log will initially be empty, but as you encounter more and more obstacles it will be gradually filled.
Profile and Customization $55,000
The Profile feature will record your stats, such as kills and scrap collected, from every game you participate in. At the end of each game there is a small chance that you’ll receive a cosmetic customization item for your ships, these items will be stored in your Profile where you can access them between games. The Profile will allow you to view your lifetime scores for various statistics, and swap out skins on your ship with new ones that you’ve unlocked while playing.

We have a solid prototype, but as we begin to add more features to the game, like random events and more bosses, we may be forced to push back the release of the game. Not only will creating the features be difficult, but making sure they are balanced correctly will take time. The only reason we will push back the release date will be to make sure that everything in the game is polished to perfection, to give all backers an amazing experience.
The team has been working together for a whole year now and has already released a title as Risen Games. We are well equipped and ready to handle these challenges and will work hard to make sure the game gets released on time.
Yes! The enemy generation in Adrift is based on the number of people you are playing with. We intend to make sure the game is fun and beatable playing alone as well as with friends.
We want the boss fights to be epic! They are meant to test the team's limits. Boss fights are where you will find out if the combination of skills and equipment you have work well with the rest of the team. It will take a lot of skill and teamwork to take out the bosses.
