My name is Arlan and I’m on a quest to
meet 10k people in person by the end of the year! I'm calling it the Arlan Was Here project:)
If we get fully funded, I'll begin in mid August and continue nonstop until New Year's! Yes that IS approx 80 people per day everyday for 125 days. It will be challenging, but not impossible! I'll be going to most of the major cities in the US, Canada, UK, Europe and Australia and I can't wait to meet you! This is changing my life…one person at a time. I wish everyone had the opportunity to do what I’m attempting.
What started in 2008 as a social experiment and a way to raise awareness of my magazine's fundraising efforts, quickly became a life-changing calling for me. I've met nearly 300 people so far on my quest, but have had to take an indefinite break due to lack of funds. I wish to raise the funds needed for budget travel to cities worldwide. I continue to take a snapshot with each person I meet and upload it to my website.

Absolutely not! My intention is to meet people from all over the world, from all walks of life, all races, backgrounds, ages, sexual orientations and beliefs. I learn something from every single person I've met so far on this journey, and want to meet everyone I can! Backing me with $1 or more helps ensure that I can continue doing this and reach my goals while bringing people closer together. Once the project is fully funded and is complete, Kickstarter will let me send out what they called a 'survey' to everyone who's pledged for a tangible item. Its during this survey that I will be able to collect your size and color choices, as well as your address. So you can sit back and relax for now...and we'll take care of the details in just a few days (fingers crossed we reach the goal!)

This is a fantastic question. The money will go towards budget travel to about 50 locations worldwide--I feel that in order for this to reach its full potential, it has to include several countries much like the "Free Hugs" campaign--it will also go towards the design, printing and shipping of all of the tangible perks: books, tshirts, posters, postcards, etc-- the 8-10% fee that kickstarter & amazon charge, accommodations when I can't crash on someone's couch (I'll be traveling for nearly 20 weeks), photo equipment, and a small stipend for food.
