Hi David, apologies for the delay in replying to you we have been terribly busy with the site launch over the last few weeks and as a result this phase did not get the attention it deserved. However, we have just opened filmmaker signup on the site so for $100 per film per year any filmmaker can sign up to add their film. We felt this was a more sustainable way forward. If you're interested please check out http://openindie.com/add-film

Why is this phase so quiet? Is there going to be a push? Only 10 days left...

      Hi Andrew,
Thanks for asking this question, it's something I'm going address in the blog post that gets published when the video for this project is launched. In short, yes, the plan is for the cinema network to be worldwide eventually. Obviously this is very ambitious but the person responsible for bringing cinemas on board will have a remit covering the USA, Canada and Europe. At this stage we're planning for this person be based in the USA, this is primarily a financial decision as our funding dollars go further in the US than they would in Europe. But, believe me when I say that I wouldn't be involved in a project which was US centric only. The plan is firmly that this network of cinemas should be worldwide.

To answer your second point, yes, in some cases indie cinemas are cautious about signing up to something like OpenIndie, that is why we believe that a dedicated member of staff at OpenIndie is needed to build a relationship with these theatres, explain to them how OpenIndie works and offer them the opportunity to try the platform. Arin knows from his experience with Four Eyed Monsters how hard it can be to persuade venues but we both think that is changing an there's an increasing number of venues willing to book films in this way. Recently, I had the opportunity to sit on a panel at Leeds International Film Festival after I spoke one of the later panels was made up of microplex owners and managers. It struck me in that session that gauging demand for a film is one of the most important tools which is missing from these theatres arsenal. Hopefully, OpenIndie can allow them to measure demand more accurately, save money on traditional advertising mediums and maximise bums on seats per screening.

Hope that answers your question, lemme know if there's anything I can clarify :)

Is this indie cinema network going to include the UK? Kieron, who's your partner on the project, is from the UK but indie cinemas seem to be very closed off to something like OpenIndie in the UK, even in London.
