Connected as Ari Krupnik (268 friends)
I run Ari Krupnik & Associates where we build iPhone peripherals and associating apps. We mostly help other companies connect their devices to iPhones. Sometimes, we dream up our own products and turn to Kickstarter to help fund them.
One of the things I absolutely love about Kickstarter is how quickly the community tells you if you're building something worthwhile--or wasting your energy on a product nobody wants.
Etcher is my third Kickstarter project.
Glad you have your unit Atley.
I have a lot of fun with Blade uCX and a Spektrum DM8 module.
Ari.
Got mines! Now to go rc hunting for a mini helo! Amy suggestions?
You can sign up through this page: http://store.rc4wd.com/iPhly-for-Apple-iPhone-4-iPod-Touch_p_1487.html
Ari.
Yarghh!! for me too. I didn't get to back this! :(
Yarghh! I guess since Funding Successful, I can't back the project anymore.
Thank you for your support Max, and for sharing your enthusiasm. My associates and I are working hard to bring your iPhlies to you. Watch this space.
Ari.
FUNDING SUCCESSFUL - Giddy up!!
Cant wait to test mine out :D
Thank you for your continuing interest Enrique. I have no personal experience with 14MZ. I believe that it uses a different type of module. iPhly uses a rectangular module. If you want to use a Spektrum module , the model number is DM8.
You can pre-order now for $70 today. If you prefer, you can wait until Kickstarter project completes, and pay full retail price of $106.95
Ari.
Ari, when will able to pourchase? I have FUTABA 14mz with 2.4 fasst module and spectrum module, your Iphly hardware can adapter this modules?
Thank you for your interest Enrique. You can pre-order iPhly right here on Kickstarter. You can click "Back this Project" to your right and select the package that you want.
Ari.
Ari, where can I buy this product?I alredy have app, but need harware
Thank you for sharing you anticipation Kenta. My associates and I are working hard to bring production units to you as soon as we can. The anticipation makes the final result that much sweeter.
Ari.
Now that we see that a batch has been made, does that mean we'll be getting them relatively soon? I know there are still 11 days left until it's fully funded and then another couple of weeks for Amazon to release the funds. I'm just really looking forward to getting the transmitter to try out.
To fly a DSM2 receiver, you need the module that Kenta is linking to. Of course you can install any receiver in a larger ParkZone airplane, and you need a module that matches your receiver.
Some retailers sell the Spektrum module without its receiver if you prefer. My module comes from http://www.chiefaircraft.com/rcmsec/Models/RadioControl/Spektrum/SpektrumModules.html#Futaba
Ari.
You need only the module from this
http://spektrumrc.com/Products/Default.aspx…
The extra receiver, you can sell to make up the different or use on another plane.
You also need 4 AA batteries as well and some patience to re-learn how to fly a little bit but it's fairly intuitive.
Ari if I want to use this with a Radian Electric sailplane what will I need in addition to the iPhly I thiink it comes with a Spectrum Radio
I love this idea, though using the iPhone / iPad for the AR Drone is a bit of a pain, hopefully this is better. I am in, but can someone point me to all the pieces I need to use this with a Parkzone (aka Spektrum) airplane? I know they have those snap in modules for older / component radios, but I am not sure I see what I need here. I think a link would be helpful for others that are considering this.
THANKS!!
Corey
Yeah, we're getting there--with your help! We are going to full production. Things are happening.
Ari.
Whoo Hoo! Can't wait! I'm glad there's so much support for your product. Congrats.
Congratulations! This is really exciting! Let me know if you need another Beta-Tester!
All Right!!! Congratulations on going over the top!! So Ari, what's a rough estimate of when iPhly might emerge from this cocoon? Next Tuesday? No? Seriously, this is exciting stuff and I'll be waiting eagerly (but patiently...). And if you need anything Beta tested I'm game.
Thank you for your support Chris. You can increase your pledge, and when it comes time to give me your address for mailing the transmitter to you, remind me that your pledge pays for two units.
iPhly works with all models of iPhone and iPod Touch--you can get an older model cheaply.
I see that you are now $52 from your goal...congrats!
I was thinking of adding $85 to my pledge so that I could get an extra one.
How do I do this? Do I just increase my pledge & somehow get a confirmation from you that I am signing on for both a $150 pledge & a $ 85 pledge?
P.S. I really would like to see an android version...In the mean time I'll have to find a used iPhone.
Good Work.
Chris Card
Thank you for sharing your thoughts Oliver. I am a happier man if my project lets your friend fly again.
You know you have a product when users come up with uses for it that you hadn't thought of.
Thank you for your support.
The following may not be a new idea, but I haven't seen it mentioned. After signing onto this project last night I was thinking about the president of our local AMA R/C flying club who unfortunately suffered a stroke recently and will probably not ever have much use of his left arm. We here have been particularly sad about that because he's been building and flying wonderful models since the 1930s. Well, I realized that what with iPhly being a one-hand controller, maybe he's not done flying yet! Which leads to the idea that iPhly will make it possible for all sorts of people who have temporarily or permanently lost the use of a hand or arm to engage in R/C activities. I don't recall seeing any other one-hand controllers, and I think this might be a rather important application. Maybe it could be publicized through doctors/therapists who work with folks in such situations.
fantastic idea, hope you'll make it happen.
Hi Ari, great idea - I hope you reach your goal - I really want an iPhly to run a model Mars Rover at the STAR Centre (www.starcentre.org).
Thank you for your encouragement Oliver.
iPhly uses 4 AAA batteries for power. Its power supply is independent from the phone.
Hi Ari, I've got the R/C disease real bad and just pledged $128. A question: What's the power source for the iPhly? If it's just the iPhone/Touch what sort of runtime is typical?
I'm excited about this, not only just because it's just plain cool, but also because it's a lot smaller and will thus be easier to travel with than a regular radio.
Thank you for your encouragement Bobby. In my flying I prefer to keep the smarts in my head rather than on the model! I do find DIDronones very exciting and I'm working with them on a separate product.
If you tell me more about how you want to use iPhly with Arducopter, I am prioritize new features according to customer demand.
Ari, have you used this app with an Arducopter? Keep up the great work.

I'm glad that my device is inspiring you to return to the hobby. Radian is an excellent match for iPhly. It offers the kind of relaxing flying that I enjoy with iPhly. With the right thermals, you can fly for hours, all the while using only one hand.
Ari I havent flown for years but this inspires me Will it work with a Radian ARF? your advice is appreciated I'll wait for your reply before i get anything
Thank you for your support Atley. There are pricing changes coming to the iPhly app. If you email me, I can send you a promo code.
For your higher backers how about adding the app!!
Been thinking of getting back into R/C hobbies recently. Saw this project and couldn't resist becoming a backer. Wonder how something like this would work on the iPad as a more touch control? Oh well can't wait!!
All the best Ari!
Thank you for your support David. Anger is an emotion that associates with boundary management. I support you in experiencing anger and setting boundaries. Projects that fail to set boundaries manifest this failure as feature creep. Thank you for reminding us of that.
Thank you for your feedback Esteban. iPhly is open source. I encourage you to port the code to the platform of your choice. I wonder how you feel about $RELIABILITY. One RF link in a system makes most pilots I know plenty nervous.
@Esteban Salazar: "Development is Completed". It is made for the iPhone. It is _not_ very limiting, it would potentially have millions of users. The RF module for the RC control doesn't use bluetooth. Go fly a kite! :-)
1) locking yourself into iphone is pretty limiting. I'm an android guy so...
2) instead of audio output, why not use bluetooth? Then you could just put the SS module in your backpack! Also then you wouldn't by tying yourself to the iphone form factor. (you could still use the audio for the buddy cable)
