SXSW 2013

Update #9 · Jan 31, 2013 · 3 comments

Apologies for any silence from us, but we've had our heads buried in post-production since wrapping filming in the middle of December. Thankfully all the stress is paying off, though, as we can know officially say that Grow Up, Tony Phillips will have its world premiere at the 2013 South by Southwest film festival! You can check out the full lineup of films here, and as you can see we're in very humbling company.

This movie didn't exist in October of 2012 and now it's premiering in March. Thank you all so very, very much for making that happen.

Update #7: The AJ Bowen Experience

Update #7 · Oct 13, 2012 · comment

Every time it seems like we’re out of updates, another one presents itself. So we apologize for the frequent updates (we swear it’ll be over soon, whether we want it to be or not), but AJ Bowen, one of the first actors to ever join Grow Up, Tony Phillips, has offered up a truly one-of-a-kind package.

But before we get to that, here a few things you need to know about AJ: He’s an incredible, chef-grade cook. He’s a super film geek and loves to talk about movies. He creates mixtapes of music he thinks his character(s) might listen to.

So here’s what AJ’s volunteered: A home-cooked meal, followed by a live-commentary of one of his movies, plus your own copy of one of his character’s mixtapes. We said it was a one-of-a-kind package! As for stipulations, L.A. or Austin are the possible areas (travel not included), and the dinner/live-commentary will have to take place within the year at a mutually agreed upon time.

Thanks again for sticking with us. The swell of support, especially in these final hours, has been overwhelming.

Update #6: One More Cast and a Final Reward

Update #6 · Oct 13, 2012 · comment

Well, it turns out we’re not done with the updates just yet. We’ve got one more casting announcement to make. Caleb Barwick has joined the project, taking on one of the last remaining core roles in the film. When Caleb and Emily first met, she instantly knew he’d be perfect for Grow Up, Tony Phillips, and we could not agree more.

And finally, we’re getting down to the eleventh hour, but we do have a new pledge level to add. As if Barbara Crampton wasn’t already awesome enough, she’s graciously offered up several phone chats with her as a reward. And if getting to pick the brain of one of the coolest genre icons of all time wasn’t enough, Barbara will also include a copy of her original Re-Animator script with her notes inside! (Note: The chat must take place within the next year at a mutually agreed upon time.)

Thanks again for all your support and exposure. It’s been unbelievably encouraging and means the world to us.

Update #5: More Cast and Crew, Plus the Final Push

Update #5 · Oct 12, 2012 · comment

As of this writing, there are less than 44 hours between us and the deadline. We've come so very, very close, and we simply could not have gotten nearly this far without the humbling generosity of so many of you. Saying thanks doesn’t even begin to cover it, but hopefully a thank you by way of making a helluva movie will. And we think we can do just that.

We don’t have any new rewards to unveil today, but we do have a few cast and crew updates to announce. First, on the casting front, it’s our pleasure to announce that Byron Brown has joined the film. Those who follow the Old Murder House Theatre may recognize Byron from their stage productions, while Fantastic Fest-ers may recognize him from this year’s The Quiet Girl’s Guide to Violence. He’s a very talented, naturally funny man, and he’s perfect for his role.

We’re also thrilled to announce that we will once again be working with some of our favorite collaborators. Our Cinematographer is Gray Haddock, who has worked on every Arcanum Pictures project so far, great and small, and is one of our best secret weapons. You can check out a sample of his wide-ranging work at his official site. And on the editing front, we’ll be relying on the indispensable Luke Mullen and Shane Gibson (both of My Sucky Teen Romance) to turn our Halloween comedy dreams into an actual movie. No pressure, guys.

This will probably be our last update on the Kickstarter before it ends at 10am on Sunday, October 14th. We can’t thank everyone enough for pledging, following along, and helping spread the word. The support we’ve gotten, especially the closer we get to the finish line, has been incredibly invigorating. We’re full steam now, and it will probably get down to a photo finish, but we can do this.

Thank you.
