We are in the final stages of opening a new restaurant in San Francisco called AQ Restaurant & Bar ("AQ" for short). We hope you'll come along for the ride by pledging to fund our project in exchange for exclusive rewards. It is an ambitious project, but with your help we will make it happen. It's amazing what passion, hard work, and community support can accomplish, especially when great food and wine are involved. We created this Kickstarter page to make it easy to support our project.
What is Kickstarter? Kickstarter is a new way to fund creative projects through "Crowd Funding". If you're not sure how it works, take a look here, here and here. Essentially, you pledge funds to help us develop and open AQ and we give you cool stuff in return. See over there on the right?
When we reach our fundraising goal, you get the cool stuff and we get the financial support we need to complete our project. If we don't reach the goal, you don't lose any money (or get any cool stuff). We can raise more than our target ($25k), so keep pledging if you want more cool stuff!
What is our restaurant concept? The term “AQ”—short for “As Quoted”—is often found next to particularly fresh, seasonal items on restaurant menus. You may have seen it next to fish, oysters, crab, etc. Our concept embraces this seasonal notion and extends it to our entire menu. All of our dishes are prepared entirely with seasonal, fresh, local ingredients sourced directly from local farmers. We offer "approachable fine dining" which means excellent food and service coupled with an approachable price tag and no stuffy ambiance. But that's not all... The ambiance and decor of AQ will also change dynamically with the seasons—Our color scheme, lighting, art installations, linens, graphics, and interior materials will transform 4 times a year to show our guests the beauty of every season. AQ is located in the SOMA/Mid-Market neighborhood of San Francisco, walking distance from dozens of theaters and entertainment venues including SF Ballet, The Orpheum and SF MoMa. However, there are very few options for delicious food in our neighborhood and not much in terms of retail activity, either. We aim to help solve this problem by providing a beautiful restaurant space for people to gather and enjoy great food with friends and family. By developing this restaurant, we will be a part of growing our local community and creating a fun, safe, active neighborhood for locals and visitors alike. We already have great neighbors moving in, including De La Paz Coffee Roasters, Deli Board, Twitter and Burning Man(!).
We are thrilled to have Mark Liberman on board as AQ's executive chef. Mark has cooked in some of America’s best restaurants, including Daniel Boulud Brasserie and Joel Robuchon in Las Vegas—the latter held 3 Michelin stars, a rank held by only eight other restaurants in the country. Locally, Mark ran the kitchen at La Folie, working under legendary chef Roland Passot. Mark’s creative talent is evident in every beautiful dish he creates. Beyond regular lunch and dinner service, AQ features a variety of food-related education programs partnering with farmers, wineries, chefs, butchers, bakers, and more. Our culinary education programs encourage community participation in local food systems and propagate our company’s message and mission, along with providing fun, culinary experiences for those who take advantage of the opportunity.
We created this Kickstarter campaign to help fund the final push to open the restaurant and to get our friends, family, coworkers, acquaintances, and local food lovers involved through a sense of collaborative ownership. Nearly everyone we know has thought about owning a restaurant someday... now is your chance to own a small piece! By funding our project this way, we can personally meet, thank, and celebrate with everyone who becomes a backer.
This is a big project. I've personally invested my own savings in this restaurant as have many of our closest family and friends, but we need a bit more to reach the finish line! Money raised through Kickstarter will primarily be used to purchase equipment and to bring our beautiful historic building up to code. We've already completed the plumbing, electrical, sprinklers, gas, water, framing and structural requirements, but we still need cash to purchase stoves, ovens and other appliances to cook up some fabulous food.
