The 4th annual One Nighter Series is a collection of 8 one-night only art exhibitions and numerous other short-lived art events.
This fall, between September 1 and October 31, 2011, Art of This will present its fourth annual One Nighter Series. The One Nighters consist of 8 independent, project-specific exhibitions that are exhibited for one night only. These events are created by locally and nationally emerging artists who work in multi-media and visual art, performance, and interactive, installation-based disciplines. For this rapidly rotating programming, each artist or collaborative group has 5 days to created and install an exhibition in the gallery. Each exhibition concludes with an opening reception that shares the energy of a temporal event that is removed from the venue the following day.

The AOT One Nighter is unique in its artistic approach. The goal of this project is to present high quality exhibitions that provide artists a truly creative realm in which to develop their practice in a space that is beyond the scope of their usual facilities. For the One Nighter, artists are faced with the need to work quickly with extreme focus in a spontaneous and resourceful manner. The One Nighter also enables artists to work in a manner outside of the traditional gallery experience where a project must be planned out and completed well before it is exhibited. To the contrary, in this distinctive program, artists are able to embrace a spirit of experimentation and improvisation in which a project's success is based as much upon creating a unique and energetic one-night experience as it is with aesthetic and conceptual values.
Art of This was founded in 2005 in south Minneapolis by artists pursuing more effective means of creative communication with their community. From its conception, AOT has had a mission to provide exhibition space for emerging, underrepresented, experimental and culturally articulate artists, while maintaining a continuous social dialogue focuses on the arts.
Since its beginnings, AOT has worked towards representing the rich diversity of the community in which it exists, striving to maintain the organization's mission to present new, experimental and socially relevant artworks. At both its past south Minneapolis locations, and currently through its satellite programming, AOT has had the unique opportunity to offer free, street-level access to contemporary art and music to the diverse communities of the Twin Cities area. The diversity of AOT programming is reflected by the exhibiting of artists from a multiplicity of cultural, socio-economic, disciplinary and generational backgrounds. Furthermore, the diversity of its artistic programming, from painting and sculptural installations to video screenings and the Improvised Music Series, creates an environment of inclusion and accessibility to all.
