The daily task of creating waste is mundane, thoughtless and arguably necessary. We all do it. But it does not have to be this way. It can be transformed into a collective art practice that is expressive, informed and sustainable. And that’s a fundamental goal of the TRASH project: creating an inspiring experience and refining the democratic nature of waste creation. 

Imagine going through your day, turning the corner, and experiencing a new field of color that changes your point of view.

So how does TRASH work?

TRASH is a project for urban beautification and environmental awareness. It asks participants to throw out their trash using artist designed, biodegradable bags instead of the traditional black bags in order to generate a public art installation. It was launched in NYC in 2008 with 4,000 bags and included installations in Harlem, LES, SoHo, West Village, Brooklyn, and the Meatpacking District. www.trashproject.biz

Since its launch, TRASH has become an engaging platform for self-expression and collaboration in communities. The beauty of the project lies in the synergy. TRASH allows the public to become an integral part of environmental expression, thus TRASH is really everyone’s project. Recently, we have been invited to produce the project on a much grander scale in Europe and the Americas. We need your support to grow and share it with new cities around the world. The BIG ASK for TRASH 2013

We need your support to help facilitate the re-launch of this project as a global initiative.

TRASH currently has four color ways. We are planning a new polka-dot pattern and new colors for the bags, we would like try a few new things. The bags will be biodegradable because that’s how we like to get wasted. As of now, the location for the first installation will remain undisclosed. We will announce in the UPDATES section the first city to get TRASHED at the end of the Kickstarter campaign to all our supporters.

With your support we will be able to:

- Introduce new color ways

- Manufacture biodegradable bags

- Launch the project globally

- Organize the largest installation to date: 25,000 bags
