A visually stunning chronicle of what it is like to live in Antarctica for a whole year from the point of view of the everyday workers.
I have been working in Antarctica since 1998, and steadily gathering footage for this project for the last 10 years. My work has appeared in numerous locations all over the world, including the Natural History Museum in New York, National Geographic Channel, Discovery, and most recently BBC's Frozen Planet series.
Now I am finally ready to present my feature film about what it is like to live at the bottom of the planet, in Antarctica, for a full year. The story is not from the point of view of scientists, but of the everyday workers who are there to keep the stations running in the coldest place on the planet.
Never before has this been brought to the screen. Documentary film crews usually only get to visit Antarctica during the few short months of summer. This film includes footage meticulously gathered over 10 years, including 9 winters, isolated from the rest of the world, in 24-hour darkness and mind-numbing cold for months at a time.
The filming is finally completed, the first edits done. Now we just need your help to fund the full soundtrack.

They can do a great score with the minimum project funding, but with more can create a richer musical experience. This may include hiring a full orchestra. Full funding for an orchestral track plus sound engineering and cinema grading would cost about $250,000.
We want to have the film ready for release as part of the Antarctic Festival in Christchurch, New Zealand in September this year, so urgent action is needed by you now to help us achieve this goal.

At the moment I am not taking any further funding through Kickstarter or offering the same deals as the existing Kickstarter supporters. There is just too much info and too little time for me to keep track of individual extra orders and keep up with the work required on the film as well.
However, if you want to keep track of when the film will be available to order, or any other updates, head over to www.frozensouth.com There is also an option there to add your email address so you will automatically receive any updates by email.
However, if you are interested in the Associate Producer level support or above I'd still love to hear from you. Film making is not cheap!

Postcards and calendars will begin shipping soon after the campaign closes.
Copies of the movie will ship after it is completed and has met any other theatrical or TV commitments. We aim to definitely have then mailed in time for Christmas 2013 at the latest. It could be a lot earlier though.

Yes, DVDs will be authored in both formats, and be shipped based on the default format of your home country unless you request otherwise. They will not have any region coding restrictions on them.
BluRay discs will be region free, so will play back anywhere in the world.

I do intend to eventually make downloads available on both iTunes and Amazon, but I can't guarantee any sort of reliable delivery time for either of them. I'm hoping to allow free digital downloads with a disc purchase if it can be made financially viable with the current limited budget, so I have not offered it as an actual reward, but I am hoping to make it a nice unpublished extra. Right now I cannot 100% guarantee things, so have not posted actual download rewards.
