Ok. We have the interior pretty much finished with the layout for each page set (we are waiting on a few illustrations, two pieces of fiction, and final word from the printer on how to layout this fold-out page we added). Some of you have been following along on the Facebook page to see how the layout looks. What we need now are YOUR characters for examples in the text, fiction inserts, and some honorable mentions. It is finally that time. Though the journey has been longer than expected, we have arrived.
So, you’ll all be getting the e-mails that request your info this week. I think we can write separate forms up for the different levels so you should only have to send what is applicable to your pre-order. You may also be asked for some personal information (obviously your address, T-shirt size, and such) so we can customize some of the names and places up for grabs in the world.
By the end of this weekend, you’ll have access to a completed chunk of the interior of the book. We had a large debate over this process, and some of you were involved. The problem is: How do we get the info to you all without floating a PDF of half the book out into cyberspace months before the hardcover is released? What we decided was to give half the necessary chapters (3 and 5) in the final layout and the other half in the unadorned typed documents (4 and 6).
When you get this hybrid PDF, you will all be able to make characters and start exploring the world of Early Dark more fully. Depending on your Backer level, you will be able to advance that character more or less before submitting the data.
The HEROES will have to arrange a Skype chat to solidify their roles in the Living Campaign, which will launch as soon as the book does (and needs to be set up in the fiction of the book somewhat).
IMPORTANT: Whatever e-mail address we have on file from you will be getting this request form soon. I have received one of those forms from Kickstarter before, and I recall that it went to a different folder than my Backer Updates. Just keep an eye out so we don’t lost anyone. You should have a solid two weeks to get the characters made, which will still give us time to include that info in the areas we left open for such inclusions. We hope that process will not take too long or mess up the layout so far, and you will get to see updates on the Facebook page when we start fitting those in.
Thanks for the patience, guys and gals. It has been quite the learning experience, and we are happy to have shared so much of it with you.
