About this project
The Boston Underground Film Festival is laboring intensely to bring the most cutting-edge film and video to the Boston area. This year is lucky 13 for the festival, and we plan on making it the best one yet, with the most unhinged cinematic attractions, exciting parties and talented guests. In order to do this, we need YOUR HELP!
In the past, the festival has been able to survive on the generosity of our sponsors. In this down economy, cash sponsorship is scarce, and we need the funds for venue rental, printing and advertising, equipment rental and accommodating feature filmmakers.
PROGRAM HIGHLIGHTS BUFF XIII will open with the eagerly anticipated Sundance sensation HOBO WITH A SHOTGUN starring Rutger Hauer. Director/Producer team Jason Eisener and Rob Cotterill, the team behind the award-winning short TREEVENGE are planned to be in attendance. Other selections include the New England premieres of Adam (POP SKULL) Wingard's A HORRIBLE WAY TO DIE, Caleb (DIE YOU ZOMBIE BASTARDS!) Emerson's FRANKIE IN BLUNDERLAND, and Usama (NICE BOMBS) Alshaibi's PROFANE. Also in the lineup is the North American premiere of DEADGIRL scribe Trent Haaga's directorial debut CHOP.
Mark (NOT QUITE HOLLYWOOD) Hartley's doc MACHETE MAIDENS UNLEASHED! will also screen as a double feature with Eddie Romero's 1973 schlock-classic TWILIGHT PEOPLE.
More exciting selections will be released in the coming weeks!
The Boston Underground Film Festival has a 13 year history of bringing under appreciated cinema to an audience ravenous for a movie-going experience outside the mainstream. Over the years, BUFF has managed to host such guests as Bill Plympton, George Romero, Lloyd Kaufman, Frank Henenlotter, and most recently George Kuchar and Mink Stole.
BUFF has also managed to give Boston audiences face time with such visionary contemporary filmmakers as Douglas Buck, Simon Rumley, Zach Clark, Karim Hussain, Anna Biller and Ann Marie Fleming. We want this year's BUFF to continue with our tradition of bringing filmmakers face-to-face with an appreciative audience.
We are reaching out to our audience to help us out by buying a festival pass early (and at a discount) through this Kickstarter campaign. Smaller donations are always welcome and will be rewarded with thank yous and festival screening tickets. At the higher levels we are offering invites to exclusive donor events and our filmmaker reception at the festival.
What people are saying about BUFF: “BUFF has certainly grown into one of the coolest underground fests in the world.” – Mike Everleth, Bad Lit
“The festival was a real class act, with a fantastic, intimate ambiance, cool guests and a genuinely awesome staff, who every year are elevating the event in importance and reputation. It was a great pleasure to show my movie there and also to discuss the film with the Boston audience, who were so enthusiastic and communicative.” – Karim Hussain, filmmaker, La Belle Bête
“Cinema lovers who are drawn to the kind of original and experimental works they won’t find at the local multiplex (or even the local art house) can look forward to the arrival of the Boston Underground Film Festival.” – Lisa McKay, Blogcritics
“The Boston Underground Film Festival prides itself on digging up naughty and subversive little flicks that look something like a Herschell Gordon Lewis/John Waters concoction.” – Harry Vaughn, Weekly Dig
